Charming inn in Rioja wine region

Loved our stay in this former home of the King of Navarre. Used it as a jumping off point for our visit to the wineries. We also enjoyed having dinner in the beautiful dining room with a colorful ceramic tile mural adding flavor to the already well prepared food. Make sure to wander around the town and climb up the Tower. Great views from there. Don't miss the near by Artesania Textil mill with its handmade luxurious mohair scarves, shawls and blankets that make great gifts for everyone (including yourself).

Wonderful stay in charming spanish town

We were walkign the Camino and stayed in Santo Domingo de la Caldaza., a town is named after the patron saint of engineers. We treated ourselves to the Parador that contains the 14th century pilgrim hostel as its central hall. Wonderful hotel room and staff. The only issue was the tables outside the entrance reek of cigarette smoke. We had a treat for dinner at a la Cancela, wonderful food, cod ooked in salt and butter, chicken pounded flat then rolled with nuts and orange peel.

Parador Santo Domingo, neat lobby

Posted Apr 10, 2012
Pros: Free parking in a dense urban zone, right in the middle of the historic center, old stones & high arches in lobby, bidet (bathroom)!, wi-fi.
Cons: Nothing that I can think of.
Location: In middle of tourist area, hard to get to if you don't know the 'secret turns' into the plaza, otherwise ideal location for seeing old city.
Same high standards, quality, and service as at the other two Paradors where we stayed. DIdn't try the restaurant this time. Staff friendly and helpful, as well as professional.
