A nice place to stay in Santo DomingoPosted Dec 3, 2013
Pros: The court yard, AC, and location
Cons: The front desk staff was not very friendly. I have not tried food but $16 for breakfast is a lot. There are lots of cheaper restaurants nearby.
Location: Great location. Walking distance to all the attractions in the colonial zone. However, 1 day/1 night is more than enough for Santo Domingo
Great location. Nice hotel. The front desk staff was not very friendly. They also messed up with a taxi ride to the airport for the next day. First they said they would book it for me. The next day when I checked with them, the taxi driver said he was booked already. I said I would not need a reservation and that I would find my own taxi driver. I guess the staff at the hotel made a booking for me anyways. When I was departing, 2 drivers were waiting for me. The one that was booked by the hotel was insisting I was going with him. When I told him I did not book him and that the hotel must have made a mistake, he was trying to force me not to go with the driver that I found on my own. He also insisted that if I didn't go with him, I would need to pay him 1/2 of the fare to the airport. I would not recommend to stay in Santo Domingo for more than 1 day/1 night. You can see all the attractions in the colonial zone in 1/2 day. I don't recommend going to Faro de Colon. The place is not well maintained and it looks like abandoned. The exhibits are not very interesting. Sometimes you can't even see these exhibits because there is no light. Tres ojos is interesting to see. Take a cab to get there.

Hotel Frances was wonderful. In the heart of Santo Domingo's beautiful historic district. Most everything is within walking distant or a short cab ride. Beautiful spanish architecture. There is a court yard where you can relax, have dinner and drinks.

Glad I stayed herePosted Nov 17, 2013
Pros: Cleanliness, location was great, staff was courteous
Location: Great choice for Colonial zone. It was conveniently located. If you don't mind a little walking it's pretty accessible to Malecon as well.
I stayed 3 nights and enjoyed my time here. It's a beautiful boutique hotel situated in an old mansion in the Colonial Zone. My room felt clean and comfortable and the staff were friendly and professional.

Pros: Beautiful hotel 3 min walking distance to old town. Very nice interior court yard.
Location: The colonial old town is the place to be in Santo Dimingo. Great square in front of the cathedral with cafe's shops and people watching. Photo inc.
Great charming located right in the center of the colonial old town center. Hotel staff are very friendly and professional.

Horrible manager staffPosted Nov 13, 2013
Pros: the colonial garden, but we could not enjoy it due to our short stay and bad experience with the staff.
Cons: A better manager and customer service.
Location: GEt breakfast somewhere else. hotel charges $16 per person. 2 of blocks away you can find great places to have decent good brkfst for 1/2 of the price
We booked a double room for me and my husband. When we arrived they charged extra 25 dollars for the second person. We arrived past midnight and the front desk person said that in the reservation states it was for one person. We explained that was not the case. He said to call expedia and they can confirm if the price we paid was for the room. EArly in the morning as we were departing I called Expedia and they called the hotel manager. I was at the front desk when Carlos from Expedia called. The manager bluntly said that it was their policy to charge the extra 25 dollars per second person even if it was a mistake an a shared bed in the booking and the price we booked was for the whole room. I tried to explain myself to the manager that the price was for listed for the room. Anyhow they said no, you must pay. SO, NEVER Again going to this place with this kind of greedy people. DO NOT RECOMMEND. There are nicer places with nicer people. Everyone in this country was helpful and nice, except the manager of this hotel. Rude and lack of understanding.

Hidden Gem in the Colonial ZonePosted Oct 22, 2013
Pros: The patio is my favorite part of the hotel.
Cons: The only thing that surprised me was that the hotel charges $24.00 for every guest that goes into your room.
Awesome Hotel, and helpful staff. The hotel is located within walking distance from all the tourists attractions in the Colonial Zone. Also, some local and global (Hard Rock's cafe, Segafredo...etc.) restaurants are just a short walk away.
