Good Hotel

Posted May 14, 2014
Pros: The bar, the restaurant and the pool
Cons: The old rooms need to be renovated.
Location: Very good location, lots of restaurants around the area.
Good Hotel, the room I stayed on is fine, some spots in the room give the impression you are staying in an old hotel, however the room is very clean. Hotel staff really polite and helpful.

Good hotel. We had a good sleep. Didn't enjoy the hotel stay much since we stayed just to attend a wedding.

Great hotel!!! If you stay here, eat at the local burger sports bar. They have great burgers. You can walk there. Pay extra and upgrade your room. The pool is great and the bed is soooo comfortable!!!

Family Trip

Posted Apr 30, 2014 on Hotels.com
My parents are both Dominican, and I lived in Santo Domingo for a few years. So Embajador is a very well known hotel to us, having a reputation for being among the older, distinguished hotels in the city. This reputation, and it's location led to my decision to book a room for our weekend stay. Embajador was built in 1956. Having said that, this property has been well maintained. Staff are friendly and well mannered, especially in Los Porches Restaurant, where I say every morning with my parents for the breakfast buffet (included in the hotel rate). About the breakfast--FANTASTIC! Wonderful variety of hot/cold foods, pastries and breads. I can't rate the restaurant food since we only ate breakfast there. Rooms: we were on the 4th floor, facing the hotel entrance side. Despite facing the street, it was relatively quiet, with the exception of the birds who congregated every evening in the trees. But that was more a source of entertainment for us than anything else. (Smile) Room was well lit, roomy balcony, AC was nice and cold, comfy beds. Furniture was contemporary, a sign of renovations in recent years. Size of room was fairly good, and the closet was a walk-in, very helpful for 3 adults sharing a room. I used it as my changing/makeup room. Bathroom was also renovated and the shower head could be used as a handheld, VERY helpful when trying to avoid ruining a salon hairdo for a wedding! Favorite feature of the hotel was its gardens and pool area, and the lobby. The Art Deco accents and chandeliers of the lobby hearken back to it's glory days in the 50s-70s and the nightly piano playing was an elegant touch. Pool area is exquisite. Clean, crisp, I LOVED the stone floor which always remained cool despite the bright hot sun. Embajador is located within a residential area of Santo Domingo. As a result you will see many apartment buildings, but also a large variety of restaurants, businesses as well. There are at least four restaurants just outside the main gate: Argentinian, Spaniard, Italian/pizza all with entrees averaging US$15-25 (I'm taking all of them into consideration, some may be a little cheaper than others) Pricing at the hotel, I found to be quite reasonable at Los Porches (you can read their menu at the entrance, I only had breakfast but did look at the menu for information's sake) and the pool bar. Entrees once again average about US $15-25 and drinks at pool bar $6-8 each. I stay at hotels often because of business travel, and didn't find the prices outrageous at all. All in all...Embajador was a delight for us. I was very pleased, as were my parents. And I am very confident we will be repeat guests here.
