“Depends on what you want”

La Jaragua is not convenient to the pristine natural environment. Stay here if you want to be a city dweller. You can walk a few kilometers to El Conde, Calle de las Damas, and other historical sites as well as easily enjoy the street festivals on Avenida George Washington. It is a very secure hotel, the staff was one of the friendliest I've ever encountered in travels to almost 30 countries and hundreds of hotels. However, if you are looking to enjoy the natural environment such as the amazing ecotourism opportunities, stay at a resort closer to where you want to explore the natural environment. It is possible to arrange eco-tours from this hotel and they will pick you up and return you. It's just a matter of what you want. The city of Santo Domingo itself is surprisingly underwhelming considering it is the oldest city in the western hemisphere; they could go a lot farther to highlight the historical richness of the city. Bottom line, this is a great hotel, amazing staff, awesome pool.

Getting around
English is spoken very little in Santo Domingo proper. You'll need to know at least some basic spanish.

“Needs maintenance and update.”

The jacuzzi was not working properly and the attendants response was "We are waiting for the part to have it fixed". Show area where casino is un kept, dirty, messy. Hotel needs new paint job on the outside.

Area recommendations
I would recommend Punta Cana only.. The area of the Zona Colonia is filthy and smelly and run down. Taxis are super expensive and you are encouraged to use them because of the crime in the area. Food in the hotel and outside of the hotel is expensive for all it is worth.
Getting around
Getting around is a nighmare because if you walk you are risking your life with crime and the way they drive; no respect at all for the pedestrians. If you take a taxi you are charged an arm and a leg for it and you are risking your life because there are no traffic rules or regulations that are followed.

“Can't Wait to go back!”

I really enjoyed my stay at Jaragua! it was conveniently located right across from the ocean. The service was great and the food was amazing. The bar next to the pool was my favorite place. I met great new people and the bartender Alex was great and created great memories for my friend and I. Everyone was very nice and helpful and the location was beautiful. For this price it was amazing and i would definitely recommend all to this hotel! I cant wait to return.

“Can't wait to go back!”

Renaissance Santo Domingo Jaragua Hotel & Casino is the best hotel I have stayed in the city of Santo Domingo. Very clean, comfortable beds, spacious rooms and bathrooms ohhh and those pillows were amazing! I strongly recomend to include the breakfast to your stay, it is affordable if you book in advance and their breakfast buffet style has everything you can ask for breakfast, from traditional dishes to the american omelette. Overall I will stay again and highly recommend this hotel.

Area recommendations
If you are staying in the city you might want to catch a taxi to La Zona Colonial and experience the romantic streets of this old city. Learn DOminican history and why not stop by one of those beautiful restaurant terrace for lunch/dinner or just some strong Dominican Coffee?
