“Wonderful Hotel and Location”

Santorini is a magical place and staying at the Absolute Bliss hotel made it that much better. The hotel is located in Imerovigli which is a smaller town between Oia and Fira. I think it is the BEST location in all of Santorini because it is quiet and less crowed than either Fira and Oia. It also is the most perfect place for viewing the sunsets. The hotel is built into the cliff-side and affords perfect, unobstructed views of the caldera. The hotel opened in 2008 and is very nice. The staff is most helpful. Breakfast was served in our room every day. You get to choose your breakfast items everyday, so you don't get bored with the offerings. The cheese and spinach pies were very good, as were the chocolate croissants. The furnishings are very simple, but tasteful. Most Greek hotel rooms are sparsely decorated, so this was not a surprise. But, I wouldn't want it any other way in an island resort. We also had a hot tub out on the deck!! Free WiFi was also available. All in all, it was a perfect place to stay on a wonderful island. One note, the hotel is a little hard to find unless you know exactly where it is. If you call the hotel when you arrive, they'll provide instructions on how to get there and will meet you on the street. ALSO, the hotel (as most hotels in Santorini) is NOT wheelchair accessible.

Area recommendations

This hotel is located in Imerovigli which is a small town. No choice with regard to neighborhood. If you like a less crowded, simple town, this one is for you. If you want to be in the center of night-life, then choose either Fira or Oia. You can walk to Fira in 20 minutes or take the 5 mile walk to Oia. The bus system is great to get you between towns and sites for 1.60 euros. Taxi service is also readily accessible.

When to go

We where in Santorini May 27-30. I would recommend this time because it is not so crowded and the weather has not gotten really hot. As a matter of fact, the weather was quite cool during the evenings and night, but perfect during the day for walking, hiking and visiting the sites. If you want to avoid the crowds, this was the perfect time.

Getting there

Depending on how you arrive in Santorini, you have many choices on getting to the hotel. We arrived by ferry from Syros. It comes into the Port at Thira (which is NOT the same port used by the large cruise ships). We decided to try the bus system. We took a bus to Fira (2.20 Euros). Then connected to a bus to Imerovigli (1.60 Euros). The hotel is a short walk from the bus stop. Taxis are also a choice for all you transportation needs. I don't know how expensive they are, but from what I understand, they are about 5x the bus price.

What to pack

When going to Santorini, expect to walk a lot of stairs. Therefore, pack only what you can lug in your suitcase. Roller bags are perfect. Depending on the time of year, you may need some warm weather clothes. Also, Santorini can get windy. Therefore, take a windbreaker.
