Astir Thira in Sept
Posted Jan 17, 2013
Pros: The friendliness of the staff
Cons: Just a bit cramped at breakfast time but manageable
Location: Very good location. Just a few minutes walk from Thira
My wife and I and two adult children stayed in the Astir in mid Sept. Our stay was very enjoyable and I can't be more complimentary to the family that run the Hotel.Very friendly and helpful with anything we requested of them. The pick up from the airport and drop off made it very convenient. The location of the hotel is a short walk from Thira which I considered more suitable than staying in the heart of the town. All in all my family had a very friendly stay and I would certainly stay in this hotel should I return to Santorini.

Astir Thira
Posted Jan 22, 2011
Hotel was clean and neat. Staff was helpful with some questions and helped with local car rental, but were not as quite as service oriented as most other hotels (3 nights and tiny soap bars never replaced, wifi claimed available in rooms but signal too low to attach). Wifi in lobby good, and there were available plugs. Breakfast ok, but fewer options than other lower-priced hotels. Short 5-min. walk from Thira city.

great pool & close to town

Great family hotel. Only a 5 minute walk from town and even shorter if you hire a car or scooter. Plenty of nearby parking. Rooms are clean too.

Nice Boutique Hotel
Posted Jan 31, 2010
We enjoyed this hotel and its knowledgeable staff. The only issue was getting baggage up and down the stairs, which although beautiful marble stairs, are difficult to haul suitcase up and down – we assisted a lady traveler with a large suitcase get her baggage downstairs. Would suggest that older travelers request a ground floor room The internet was free but available only in the lobby. Breakfast was adequate, although limited and always the same. There were no facecloths or Kleenex but that was true for all 5 hotels we stayed at in Greece. Over all, this is a well kept, well run small hotel. Traveler should be aware that it is not located exactly in the old part of Thira, but is a short walk.

Family run business and one of the daughters had a really bad attitude, which was unfortunate as the rest of the family was reasonable. Don't expect too much for breakfast and the mattresses are back breaking. However the hotel was clean and they arrange for free transfers to/from airport.

Nice Stay
Posted Jan 2, 2010
This family-run hotel is a short walk from Fira and a good value. Our only complaint is a common one for a European hotel - the shower was very small and keeping the water in it was impossible. However, there is drain in the middle of the tiled floor, so the water easily runs off! Breakfast was adequate and service was great. No complaints there! Rooms on the front of the hotel are probably noisier than those located in the back since the hotel is located on a major road. We got used to the sound, though, and it wasn't a problem.

Excellent Hotel- Absolutely No Issues
Posted Jan 19, 2009
This hotel was fantastic. It must have been recently renovated as everything was brand new. The whole hotel and rooms were spotless. Pool was great. It was a great, small,, quiet, cute family run hotel. Everyone at the front desk was extremely helpful setting up any activities you may want to do. A/C and internet were free. We liked the location as it was a little quieter than being in the center of town. Nice views, free shuttle van service. I'd definitely recommend this hotel.

Great Hotel with Great Location
Posted Jan 4, 2009 on Hotels.com
The Hotel was clean and comfortable and in an excellent location just 2 min's (and I mean 2 min's) from town so we did not have the noise of town late at night but were right there. I would say the hotel was good value for the money. The staff were very friendly and accomodating (which was not our experience elsewhere so don't take this lightly) and also provided additional services like car rental (We rented a car without even leaving the Hotel) it was great. The shower was a hand held which is not that big a deal. All in all the Astir was a great experience.

Good value

Astir Thira is a relatively small, family-run hotel. Clean, reasonable-sized rooms. The staff is very helpful. They pick up incoming guests at the port or airport upon request. Breakfast (included in the room rate) was fine, and the computer + free wireless internet (lobby only) worked well. Our room was in front, which meant some street noise when the window was open but also a great view of the caldera from our balcony. (Back rooms are quieter but the view is plainer.) The location is 5 minutes' walk from the main part of Thira -- we liked being a bit removed from the tourist shops. Altogether, we were very pleased.
