“Is this hotel even affiliated with Howard Johnson?”
After looking forever to locate the hotel- as it did not have a Howard Johnson signed out front nor did the name appear anywhere in the hotel. It seemed to look OK but it was in no condition to sleep in the sheets- luckily we had spare sheets in the car to lay on top of the bed and sleep......the front desk staff was very nice, but that's about it.
“Hotel has gone downhill”
I booked a hotel room for the Howard Johnson in Sarasota but when I got there the hotel was really a America's Best Value Inn. The manager told me they had changed about a month ago. The location is not bad near downtown sarasota but the hotel needs a lot of work. The sliding glass door in the room would not close all the way and there was a stick holding it closed. Will not return.

Maintenance lacking, burn holes in chair, patched carpets, etc. Otherwise it was fine

Wet area on floor just outside the bathroom. Security doors were never secure, i.e. requiring your door key for entry. Otherwise okay for the price paid.

Old and worn, carpet all wet from diffrosting frig, asked for extra towels to dry up carpet when I arrived was told no extra towels. The next day complained to manager, he was very nice and took care of it. Room did not get cleaned 1 day because I was in shower when maid came, Breakfast and breakfast area a joke.

Well, since I only have a 1500 character max I don't think I can say "old and dingy" quite enough times to get the point across. The room was clean but did not "feel" clean because everything was so "old and dingy". Didn't sleep because of the thin walls/ could hear noise on both sides. Went to the pool in the morning for some peace and quiet and there were loud mowers right next to it! Not relaxing at all. And this hotel is right on a very busy street! There was an odd smell in the hallway, too. Like a pet shelter. This place should be bulldozed. Watered down oj for breakfast. Never again!!!

“Would Sleep Outside During a Hurricane Before I Stayed Here Again!!!”
This has got to be the worst lodging I have ever stayed in. The hallways smelled like cat piss, and the managers would sprinkle some unknown powdery substance to try and cover the smell but just made it worse. The owners/management were very rude too, better hope you don't need anything extra. As for the "continental breakfast" that was the biggest joke of it all. Some honey buns, warm milk, one flavor of cereal, and watered down OJ. Give me a break! To top it all off, this place is 5 minutes away from the fishing boats, the only reason I decided to stay there, but don't plan on catching any fish and taking it back to the room to freeze or eat. I brought my catch back and was putting them on ice in my own cooler and I was told by the owners that I couldn't keep them in the room. I just paid $$$ to stay at this odorous establishment, paid more $$$ to take my son & I fishing then paid $$$ to have my fish cleaned just to have to through it all away. Two Big Thumbs Down!!
