Awful
Posted Jan 9, 2013
The motel is from the 50s and hasn't been updated. The towels and linens are terrible and the whole place was dilapidated. You shouldn't walk around barefoot. Clientele are long-term rental types. The condition of the Gulfside Motel should rate about $50 instead of $125.

Location Can't be beat

Wonderful location in upscale neighborhood. Directly across the street from beach, pool, concessions. Old FL motel, shows pride in ownership. Lovely paintings on walls, but do not expect the Ritz. Nice clientele who visit in the courtyard and some who have been coming back for many years.

Gulf side is a perfect, cute spot to spend time. The rooms have everything you need, the owner was very welcoming and was willing to answer all our questions that we had throughout our stay. As well, the ocean was literally a 3 minute walk. I would go back again :)

Great location, Old Florida charming apartment
Posted Jan 18, 2012 on Hotels.com
We had a quality apartment just across from the pool and beach, and only a few blocks from the shops and boutiques of St. Armand's Circle. The management was very friendly and accommodating; they even sent back an item over the mail which we forgot to pack! The benefit of having a refrigerator you can stock with supplies for day trips is invaluable, and the charming town of Sarasota is nearby where you can obtain food and groceries. The other keys are lovely as well although we didn't get to explore all of them. Overall, we had a great time and would definitely go back.

Awesome find!

Pros: price, location, cleanliness
Cons: nothing
My wife and I had a wonderful stay at the Gulfside Motel. We were a three minute walk from a quiet stretch of beach, and just a 10 minute walk from St. Armands Circle. We stayed in a studio apartment, and it had everything we needed. The full size refrigerator was a huge plus. We even grilled steaks on the gas grill in the courtyard on one of our nights. It is an older motel with an "old Florida" charm. This is not a resort. If you want to stay in a resort, the hotel across the street would suit you better for around $250 a night. Parking was a breeze, the manager was extremely helpful and polite, and the area is completely safe for walking at night. I would recommend this hotel to anyone and I cannot wait for our next stay.

Stay Away!

Pros: Close to the beach and cheap
Cons: Old, no management on site, bed sucks and no central air
Please see my review on Tripadvisor. In summary, you get what you pay for, that's for certain. Good news it's cheap, with emphasis on cheap and it's close to the beach. We made the mistake of going here just to save a few $$ and lesson learned. The place has not seen upgrade in YEARS. If you want a restful night of sleep, don't go here!

- This guest stayed in a one bedroom unit which was just recently upgraded with designer paint and flat screen tv. - There is no central air but the 18k btu unit was about 7' from his bedroom which had a ceiling fan. - No one has ever complained about the bed being too hard. - There is a resident manager on site 24/7 and will help you if you call him at the office number you are all furnished with on your reservations.

You stated amongst other things that it was " a little scary" without any further comment as to what was scary to you. you stated you were disappointed and almost got your money's worth. since we have the lowest prices for any beach property on lido, you could not have found another place to have gotten your money's worth without paying 2.5 times your rate. also, why not call the desk and say something instead of waiting to go home?
