Needs to step up its game

Posted Feb 24, 2015
I lived in Sarasota for many years and have been to the Hyatt for a number of events and vacation stays. It has definitely declined. A really nice location on the bay is now compromised by the huge Ritz Carlton blocking the view, and the sidewalk to get to the amenities nearby is unfortunately along a torn up lot with a chain link fence around it. No fault of the Hyatt's of course but factors nonetheless. The dockside restaurant is closed and its piers are rotting. The carpets are dated 80's colors. Guests are free to walk in the lobby shirtless from their recent runs or after a time at the pool--no polite signs to address that. Whenever I book through Expedia, I get the worst possible room. First floor next to the elevator over looking the parking lot. They charge a "resort' fee per day for the "free" bottled water and "free" parking. No one drinks the sulfur-smelling tap water there and all parking is free in Sarasota, for Pete's sake. The staff was friendly but not enthusiastic about their jobs or the place. This could be such a gem but right now it lacks.

Great Place to Stay

Posted Jan 2, 2015
Pros: The pool, there is also an outside fire for the evenings
Cons: It would be nice if there could be provided more fires outside
Location: Downtown is walkable, shops café resturant and the beaches are not far away.
Stayed for some winter sun over Xmas for 10 nights, very convienantly placed for downtown Sarasota also good being able to use the paddle boats and kayak which are provided, there is an additional cost of $15 per day per room, but I didn't think that was excessive this also enabled wi fi in your room and around the hotel. The pool is excellent, cleanliness was first rate. Staff were very pleasant and helpful.

Best Without Beach

Posted Dec 14, 2014
Pros: Rooms, design, staff and food, service.....everything.
Cons: Nothing really. It was only one night so there wasn't enough time to assess completely over time, but all we did see and experience was right.
Location: We were mostly at the IMG for son's soccer tourney, and then with local snowbird family members, so only had brief time in Armand's Circle and beaches
It depends what you need and like, but without a beach this hotel was best for the money. Clean, fresh décor; modern design; spacious rooms; nice pool; and bar-none the best room service food we've ever had. Conch chowder was absolutely amazing, and we are VERY picky. Fresh juices, great burger and huge Cobb salad were just what the doctor (my husband) ordered, and we were astounded by the quality, after eating at Armand's Circle and along Long Boat Key for days. Actually stayed at the Ritz for 3 nights previous and while lovely it had some issues that the Hyatt rose far above, and we won't discuss here. Simply felt more like "us" at the Hyatt, and that's something that's hard to put a finger on at times.

Great hotel close to the water! The rooms and interior of the hotel are a lot more modern than the exterior appears. The service was pleasant and efficient. I tagged a photo of mine with the hotel's location on twitter/instagram and received a tweet from the concierge saying to tweet them if I needed anything. Pretty cool and modern! Really enjoyed my stay and would stay again if I'm ever in the part of Sarasota.
