Pros: See above
Cons: See above
Location: St Armond circle is terrific.
The hotel is old & in need of significant remodeling. It is not clean. It is noisy and all room have doors opening to outside which can be a security issue. The food was OK. The setting is great, pool & gulf all in same view. The staff was remarkable and tried to make us comfortable. The cockroach in our bathroom was the last straw....we will never return!

Great old hotel.....very early Florida

Posted Feb 23, 2015
Pros: Location was great as was the beach and staff.
Cons: Worst coffee I've ever had except for when I was in the military! And that was two mornings in the dining room. Wouldn't drink it again.
Stayed two days and enjoyed the stay even if the weather wasn't perfect.

Hotel could use a facelift but location was great. Restaurants/bar convenient and good food priced right.

Not as advertised

Posted Feb 23, 2015
Pros: Close to beach and large swimming pool.
This is an older, "quaint?" facility. We could hear voices from next room, footsteps from room above us, and parking was poor. They charge for a lot of things that are free at other facilities.

Highly overpriced hotel

Posted Feb 22, 2015
Pros: Location
Cons: Avoid evidence of stinginess in every aspect. At the very least should offer complimentary coffee in lobby and better quality towels.
Location: Location on beach. Ringling museum nearby, shops and restaurants nearby.
This hotel offered none of the amenities usually offered by much less expensive hotels. (despite costing two and a half times as much). No coffee in lobby, no complimentary breakfast, etc. Coffee available in overpriced restaurant for 3.00 , other items equally expensive. We booked a larger room. It was still rather small with outdated furnishings and did not include a microwave. We were given only two sets of thin towels per day, other budget chains usually have given us four sets routinely. Final straw was an unexpected extra charge of 25.00 per day listed as a resort fee.

A castle in the sand!

Posted Feb 16, 2015
Pros: It felt relaxing and comfortable. Great access to the ocean. Sitting outside on the terrace at happy hour overlooking the ocean was divine.
Cons: The dinner selection could offer a few more healthy options.
Location: Explore the National Park and dunes along the ocean, walk through the neighborhoods and enjoy the low key atmosphere.
I'd go back with a heart beat. I enjoyed my stay and can recommend the Sandcastle with out any hesitation. It is not luxury, this hotel is about comfort and low key easy breezy.

Still liking it!

Posted Feb 16, 2015
Pros: location, beach front, pool area.
Cons: the property is relatively old; new owners have started putting money into upgrading it. rooms are comfortable but not luxurious.
Location: St Amands circle is fun for shopping and eating. Walking nearby parks and beaches is a big plus
This was our third visit and noticed the upgrades in the facility from last year. Despite heavy rains on our first day and a cold wind on our second day, we still enjoyed our stay. Walking the beaches, being able to walk to St Amand circle to enjoy different restaurants and shopping, and walking the two close by parks are a big reason we like the hotel.

Older Hotel close to beach and sites!

Posted Feb 12, 2015
Pros: On the beach! Restaurant room service was GREAT allowed us to plan next day. The employees were always nice and when asked always had a answer.
Cons: I would empower the employees to improve the facility, its an older hotel that needs some TLC to details that upset guests.
Location: The Hotel is on the beach, many sites to see and restaurants.
Yes, hotel is older and the employees need to be trained/empowered to improve rooms. Our room had noisy headboards attached to wall. GFI in bathroom shaver & hair dryer plugs fell out. Food under chair. The flush handle on the toilet was loose & corroded could not be tightened. Room was on 4th floor had ants. Shower curtain bar was dirty w/corrosion. Hotel controls heat/air & fan in room not the guest. Sliding window had paper/plastic jammed in track. What I would do is train each employee because they enter touch every part of a room. Every time they enter a room use a different outlet for the vacuum is the plug loose, when they flush the toilet is the handle or seat loose, when you make the bed can you hear the headboard on the wall?? Once the employees are trained they will take those skills home and without them realizing it the Sandcastle has empowered them and given back to the community!
