Great Stay AgainPosted Feb 25, 2014
The Helmsley is a very comfortable place to be on the beach. We have been coming here for 5 or 6 years know.

Beautiful view of the water and sunsets!Posted Feb 23, 2014
Pros: The location and proximity to the beach and the Gulf.
Cons: The rooms need to be updated. Our carpet was badly stained.
Location: Great location and close to St. Armand Circle with lots of dining and shopping choices.
We had a great, but brief, stay at The Sandcastle. Great location on the beach with spectacular sunset views. Staff and room service were excellent. The only negative is that the rooms need some updating and the carpet was badly stained.

It's about the beach!Posted Feb 17, 2014
Pros: Outdoor amenities; beach, pool area.
Cons: Rooms need updating.
Location: At the south end of island, so it is quieter. Park across the street for nature lovers with kayak and paddle board rentals. Walk to St. Amand's circle
Second visit here. The rooms are a bit tired, but you can't beat the beach front! Great pool area with tiki bar and outdoor cafe. Don't be in a big hurry, as it takes a while to get their tasty food. One mile walk to St Amand's circle with lots of shopping and restaurants. Nice park across the street with nature trail and kayak rentals. And walk the beach. I'll be back!
Out of datePosted Feb 11, 2014
Room was in a corridor looking into parking garage. No heat as their system is either heat or air and they were on air. Brought us a space heater. Electrical plugs were not set up for modern devices. Plug something in and the plug would fall out. Had to unplug lamps and other things to find outlets.

80's called and whant their hotel back!Posted Feb 11, 2014
Pros: The beach.
The hotel has not been remodeledsince the 80's and it shows. Everything is a little tired and out of date. The room smelled overpoweringly of bleach. The beds were as hard as rocks. The location is nice but far from everything but the beach.

Older but nice hotel on lovely beach propertyPosted Feb 3, 2014
Joined relatives for Super Bowl weekend and enjoyed it thoroughly. Close by shopping in St. Armonds Circle was a joy. We had a lovely dinner outside at an Italian restaurant there. Room service during The Big Game was fantastic in preparation and taste. Staff is really nice and willing to do whatever a guest needs done. We would definitely come again, but trust that more updating will take place in some of the rooms.

Last Minute Stay Was LovelyPosted Feb 3, 2014
Pros: The staff, the location, and the food.
Cons: It will soon need a bit of modernizing.
Location: Walk out of the hotel and you're on the beach. The location is superb.
We decided at the last minute to spend a night in Sarasota and found rooms at the Helmsley Sandcastle. It proved to be a good decision. Although the hotel could use some updating, the staff was warm and friendly, the hotel sits right on the beach, everything was very clean, and the restaurant was excellent.

Great homely hotel, incredible staff.Posted Feb 3, 2014
Pros: The staff and location.
Cons: The rooms need a bit of maintenance, so paint peeling in a few small places.
Location: On the beach, near several museums.
I was there for a total of 8 days (two 4 day stays), and while the rooms were a bit dated, the staff more than made up for it. Best hotel staff I have dealt with (I have over 2 million miles on AA, so I've been in lots of hotels). Very friendly and helpful. In fact, I'll be back there again next year.

Great location, needs alot of updating.Posted Feb 2, 2014
Pros: Loved the location. Room had a balcony facing the beach.
Cons: It needs to be torn down and rebuilt.
Location: Loved the location to the beach. A couple of miles from restaurants, bars and shops.
Parking garage was convenient to the room. Room and bath has not been updated for decades. Bathroom very small. Great beach location. Luckily we didn't have to spend much time in the room. Walked the beach and saw dolphins. Then drove a couple of miles to Longboat Key Town Center. Ate at Crab & Fin (highly recommended).

First impressions were not so exciting but the staff, food, and hotel won me over. I had a great time and plan to go back .
