Winter visit to the Soo.Posted Jan 5, 2014
Pros: The staff and location.
Cons: Décor is dated. Price is high considering there are no extras such as pool, hot tub. Was indicted Breakfast nook was being enlarged this is a must.
Hotel was clean, staff very pleasant. Some things were dated but overall cleanliness was excellent .Breakfast in morning was overseen but Grandma Judy and she kept banter enjoyable. Price was quite high compared to Comfort Inn in Soo US but would stay again.

UnfriendlyPosted Oct 17, 2013
Person greeting our family was not friendly.Upon arrival we had to wait to check in despite the fact we were the only people at the desk. Person stated she was not used to this shift and was preoccupied on the computer. We should have been the priority. It is noted cleaning staff were very friendly. Front desk could learn a lesson from them.

Standard comfort innPosted Aug 19, 2013
The Comfort Inn is fine. Nothing to complain about, except that the hotel does have a half floor of smoking rooms, and upon initial arrival, quite late in the evening, we were offered a non-smoking room that was right next to where the smoking section started. The staff person was able to accommodate us by moving us to a non-smoking room further away from the smoking area. Had we been in the original room, the smoke in that part of the hall (and we can only imagine our room) would have been unacceptable. However, we were informed that by September 2013 the entire hotel will be smoke-free. The hotel is not run down, but it hasn't been upgraded lately. Everything was clean and orderly, but the place does look dated. This isn't a big deal for us, we aren't looking for a 5-star resort, but I know there are people who find this kind of thing irritating, so thought I should mention it. The hotel serves a free standard continental breakfast, with a make-your-own-waffle bar. Special mention of the woman staffing the breakfast room (Judy?) ... she was so friendly and delightful, singing Zip-a-dee-do-dah to herself and spreading sunshine all over the room. She is a gem who brightened our day.

Very nice, clean and decentPosted Apr 8, 2013 on Hotels.com
The room was clean and tidy. The staff were very helpful and professional. The lady serving breakfast, was phenomenally helpful, polite, and just a joy to interact with. She was super helpful in explaining the food choices and helped me to pack a plate for my husband who was still asleep. I would stay there again anytime. Highly recommended.

DisappointedPosted Mar 13, 2013
Pros: clean, conveniently located
Cons: surprise pet fee and somewhat rude way of finding out, leaky sink, key card often didn't work in back door
Location: convenient when travelling across Canada
I stayed at Comfort Inn Thunder Bay the previous night and was impressed as usual, if not even more than usual. However, my stay in Sault Ste Marie wasn't as pleasant. The room was more than my room the previous night in Thunder Bay, which didn't really bother me at first, but I did wonder why upon discovering that it wasn't as nice, the plumbing wasn't very good and the bathroom sink was cracked, so it leaked water onto the floor below. I had to park way around the back of the hotel and go in a back entrance to get to my room, which was quite a distance from the door. The card didn't work in the back door most of the time. I checked the "additional fees" section like I always do, and no mention is made of any pet fees, but at one point I was cornered in the hallway by the woman who signed me in, and she asked if I had pets with me. I answered that I did, and she proceeded to tell me there was a pet fee. I explained that there was no mention of a pet fee on the website, and that I'd just stayed at Comfort Inn Thunder Bay the previous night, where there was no pet fee, but she insisted that this particular hotel had always charged a pet fee and that all the Comfort Inn hotels have different rules. I suggested that they add that information online so guests aren't surprised. When I woke up in the morning, there was a piece of paper under the door stating that I was being charged a $10.00 pet fee. $10.00 is reasonable, but this should be clear when booking.

cleanlinessPosted May 23, 2011 on Hotels.com
Carpet had not been vacuumed, when I dropped my earring backing noticed that there were even cut toe nails on the carpet........mentioned it to the front counter he said they would make sure it was vacuumed for the next clients. It just made me wonder if the sheets had been changed etc. and the overall cleanliness of the rooms in that hotel. People were friendly. but don't know if I would stay there again.

Worth itPosted May 3, 2011 on Hotels.com
The rooms aren't super expensive and they are pretty nice. Unfortunately some of the desk attendants are lacking in proper work ethic. When I went with my fiancée, the attendant was sitting around talking to a bunch of friends and ignored us for a bit. When she did deal with us, it was really rushed, uninformative and sloppy and her friends awkwardly stared at us the entire time.
