With the Algonquin you get what you pay for.

When I checked in the guy at the desk gave me a working key to an already occupied room, much to the shock of the nude man who was surprised at my entrance. When I informed him of what happened he gave me a key to another occupied room, so, third time was lucky and I finally got a room which was free. The room smelled strongly of fresh paint, I think, and had only one plug. There was a sink, but the toilet and shower facilities were common. When I asked about possible noise from the band who was to go on at 10:30 the desk clerk assured me that nothing would be heard. This wasn't true, they were quite loud, from the basement to the second floor. I would have gone to check them out if I didn't have to be up at six AM for the tour I was going to be taking. Like I said in the title, the cost is very reasonable considering that the hotel is downtown, but be forewarned that there are few frills to be had. I am glad that no other guests had a key to my room!

Room feel dusty

Posted Aug 9, 2014
Price is good but room not very comfortable. Felt dust in the air I was breathing. Overall Ok but need to improve cleanliness and air ventilation. Also cable and Wi-Fi were down which did not affect me too much. Basically you get what you pay for.

Very basic, but good for budget travelers

Posted Aug 3, 2014
Pros: Bar in the hotel, free parking
Cons: Showers in the rooms with bathrooms, compensation for the lack of internet/cable, better locks on the doors of the rooms, improved cleanliness
Location: The location was fine. There was a restaurant nearby that was still open when we arrived, around 8pm, but there isn't much going on in town.
We opted to book a room with its own bathroom, and we were really disappointed. There was a rusty tub with a dirty stopper but no shower. The sink was located directly beside the bed, while the toilet and bathtub were in a separate space. The cable and wi-fi were also down, which was a huge part of why we booked this room so we were super disappointed. We were travelling on a budget, so we sucked it up and made do, but we were expecting a more traditional hotel. This really felt like a hostel. The staff were great, though, and there's a bar located in the hotel. A couple of beers helped us to sleep off the surprise at our room.

A place to put your head down. Renovations are being done. No AC. Was very warm. The staff was very accommodating to make me feel welcome.

Great staff! Attached bar is a lot of fun. But it is an older building with maintenance issues. No individual washrooms, but if you want to stay cheaply in a hostel style room. Not for you if you're looking for a conventional hotel room. A great option for motorcyclists. A bike mechanic is right across the street in case you need a tire fixed or a bit of oil.

Excellent Value for the price: Clean Room

Posted May 28, 2014 on Hotels.com
I was looking for a decent room at a great price. I was not disappointed. I stayed two nights. Room 28 located on third floor (no elevator),. It was clean. The room is dated. The Cable TV was there but poor signal. Wifi was no problem, both on my personal devices as well as a pc located in the hallway. The live band played both Friday and Saturday night, and I could hear it in my room (till approx. 1 am both nights). HOWEVER I knew this in advance and it was not a problem. Shared bathroom (again I was aware at the time of my booking)
