Perfect hotel overlooking River Street.
Posted Jan 17, 2013
Pros: Their staff, it's location and the Inn itself.
Cons: Rooms could use some updating due to wear and tear.
Location: Directly on River Street and walking distance to Market Square and all of historic Savannah. Suggest TripAdvisor for trip ideas, depending on likes.
LOVED THIS PLACE. Two adults and two teens stayed in a two bedroom queen. Room was like a townhouse with two floors - 2 bedrooms, sitting areas, and kitchen. Rooms overlook River Street. Great personnel. Great breakfast, and wine and cheese offered at 5:30. Total Savannah Experience!

Best historic place in Savannah
Posted Jan 13, 2013
Pros: Room was great; people were wonderful; right on River
Cons: No elevator
Location: right on the river with lots of shops and restaurants
This is a lovely historic hotel on the River in Savannah. They do everything they can, go above and beyond to make your stay wonderful. The people are friendly and the rooms are great with the outside walls being brick. This is the only place we would stay on another trip to Savannah.

Could have been great, but...

Pros: Wonderful staff! NICE happy hour every afternoon
Cons: Noise; smell in the room was musty
Location: Good for River St action, if you don't mind the noise
Our room was very musty smelling as if it had been shut up all winter, and my clothes began to pick up the smell. One or two more chairs in the room would have been nice, as the suite was long and large with a fridge, micro, stove The lights from outside with no way to block was annoying. The noise from outside and from other rooms was the most annoying and would keep me from returning. On the plus side, the staff was terrific.

Historic charmer
Posted Jan 16, 2013
Pros: Location, comfort, charm
Cons: Hauling luggage up stairs, no TV in bedroom
Location: Beautiful downtown Savannah just behind River Street.
This beautiful old hotel has such historic charm with the creaking wooden floors and views of the water. Centrally located between the shops and restaurants of River Street and the markets in downtown. Nice sized kitchen with full fridge and large sink area. The bed was very comfortable. There were stairs leading up to my room and navigating them with heavy luggage can be very difficult. Also, there was no TV in my bedroom area which I like to watch to help me fall asleep at night. There is a television in the sitting room area. I am already scanning my calendar to plan a return trip to this hotel with my husband and children.

enjoyable stay

Pros: see comments in 2 above. also we love the suite arrangement with separate kitchen and bedroom from sitting area. fridge and microwave very handy.
Cons: walls are very thin between rooms...one night we could hear conversation and TV from next room. also some noise from outside.
Location: great location. steps to River St. close to many restaurants/shops. And free shuttle/ ferry close by. great river view from rooms & breakfast area.
we had a few small issues...first day our room was missed by housekeeping...reported that evening. second day we discovered a small water leak in room that we reported and it was monitored over next 2 days. Staff were all very helpful, polite, available when needed. Hotel has been undergoing major renovations that were almost complete. Smell of fresh paint evident in our room. Main lobby and breakfast room very pleasing now...don't know what they were like before. Complimentary wine and cheese reception every evening is definitely a nice touch and we attended each evening of our stay for about 1/2 hour. Also the ice cream bars delivered to the rooms every evening were much enjoyed.

Nice, but short changed on breakfast
Posted Jan 28, 2013
Pros: Location!
Cons: Breakfast
Location: Easy access to Riverfront shops and resturuants.
We spent 2 nights here, and the location is great. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. However, if you want anything for breakfast you better get there early. Their breakfast, which was minimal in that there was only sausage, bacon, biscuits, a little fruit, yogurt, and dry cereal (and of course coffee and OJ), is served from 6:30 to 9:30 am. On the 1st day we were there at 9:15 am and had very slim pickins; so the 2nd day we got there at 9:00 am with no improvement in our choices ... we finished off the sausage (a total of 4 pieces), biscuits (a total of 2), and OJ (1 1/2 glasses) both days. The kitchen seemed to be cleaned up and no sign of anyone making more (although we didn't ask either). Still the hotel was clean and peaceful, and right on the riverfront; so we would go there again.
