fantastic lobby full of Art booksPosted Mar 2, 2014
Pros: lobby of Art books
picked this hotel at random for location, price, and free parking, but was stunned by the Art books in the lobby - just amazing... good location, big room, everything fine

A nice stay!Posted Jul 26, 2013 on Hotels.com
We booked a room for 3 persons and were surprised to find what was more akin to a small apartment. Complete with 2 bedrooms and a kitchen. It was very clean and the staff was super friendly. The only downfall for us is that we would have liked a couple more bars nearby to grab a drink!

Soul-less interior and decor. Very uncomfortable bathroom and barely usable shower. They require you to leave the key at the front desk each time you leave, an extreme inconvenience.

Great 'down to earth' hotelPosted Oct 31, 2010
the Garni is a hotel located in a refurbished block of flats dating back to the grand social housing schemes. Although it feels box-ey from the outside (due to the architecture) it is absolutely fine inside. The fact that it is an old block of flats means that you get a full flat for yourself (converted into a huge room with fridge, bed, desk/chair ,balcony, bathroom, tv, bedside tables/lamps, entrance hall...): very spacious! the corridors may be a bit fusty (probably due to drains) but the rooms are comfortable, odourless and bright. it is located a 15 minute (leisure pace) walk from the city centre and hence very well positioned. there are several tram lines that pass by (one just 3 minutes away). I'd definitely stay there again. We didn't take the option for breakfast so we cannot comment on that.

It's okayPosted Nov 4, 2009
It's a decent property with spacious and clean rooms. The neighborhood didn't look all that nice but I had no trouble. It was not really close to anything I wanted to see but depending on your purpose for being there, it's certainly worth the price.

DON'T JUDGE A BOOK BY IT'S COVER!Posted Aug 14, 2009
When we were walking from the station to the hotel, - a walk of only 20 minutes even with a heavy suitcase, - we were concerned by the numerous derelict buildings that we passed! The Hotel Garni is a converted appartment block, surrounded by some still occupied and other, now, unoccupied appartment blocks . Inside it is a palace! Don't be put off by it's location and exterior! WE WOULD, DEFINITELY, STAY THERE AGAIN on a return trip to this rapidly redeveloping city in a few years time!

Not impressedPosted Aug 13, 2009
The area was very scary. The hotel is surrounded of abandoned and run down buildings. The hotel itself is difficult to spot from the street; once inside, it is ok. Do not walk outside the hotel at night; very scary. They do not offer free internet. Fair price.

More for the MoneyPosted Jul 24, 2009 on Hotels.com
Essentially apartments turned hotel which means living room, stocked kitchen, private bath, and bedroom with balcony. Easy access to trams going to Old Town or opposite way to 1814 Napoleon battlefield. Large and inexpensive grocery store about 15 mins. walk away (follow tram tracks) so you can home cook. Not luxurious but a nice break from the formal hotel routine. Staff friendly and helpful. Free bottled water on arrival. Laundromat nearby at tram stop but costly at $8 or so per wash/dry load.

Perfectly finePosted May 30, 2009
Now great, not bad. But perfectly fine for the price, and certainly in a handy location.
