Experiencing a little piece of historyPosted Jun 23, 2015
Pros: The atmosphere and the staff.
Cons: Removed some of the furniture--the room was over furnished, and some of it--like the TV armoire--is redundant.
Location: Wonderful area to drive from or to take walks. The walled garden is peaceful and lovely; one evening I picnicked there for supper.
I chose the Culloden House Hotel for three nights because I wanted to 1) stay outside of noise of Inverness, but close enough to drive into the city and 2) stay in a historical building. CHH achieved both these goals for me. The area around the hotel is interesting, and like all of the highlands, beautiful. The hotel has plenty of off-street parking. The interior features a few public rooms such as the relaxing lounge area, which is amply furnished in seating groups of comfortable chairs and sofas. I was traveling alone for my trip, but I felt at ease because it seemed like all the staff knew me and treated me professionally, but in a friendly manner. My room was just about as far away from the hotel's main lobby as possible, which I like. It is spacious and decorated (perhaps a little too heavy-handed) to reflect the Scottish heritage of the area. One of the two mattresses was a little lumpy, so slept on the other one. The bathroom is large and includes a modern shower and tub. The hotel toiletries are L'Occitane. My room caught the afternoon sun so it would get a little too warm with the window closed in the afternoon, but keeping the window opened solved that issue. The breakfasts are CHH are very good. There is a wide selection of choice to suit even those people who are not that fond of breakfast (a condition I do not understand as I always eat a large breakfast). Most of the food comes from local sources, and is of excellent quality. The dining room staff are great.

Great service and breakfastPosted Mar 22, 2015 on Hotels
Just one night, and in a comfortable room with a large bathroom. Old-style comforts and friendly service with a huge selection of whisky in the bar! Breakfast was one of the best I have eaten and with real leaf-tea too. Small touches like this are what I like in a hotel. And I like this hotel.

Sensacional!!!Posted Jan 6, 2015 on Hotels
Coisa de filme. Sensacional! O lugar tem mais de 400 anos, mas a aparência é impecável. Muita história e tradição nesse lugar, cuja história se mistura à da própria Escócia.

Our Own Downton Abbey ExperiencePosted Dec 30, 2014
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, This was one of the neatest experiences we have had in a long time - the staff made it feel as if we were staying at our slightly eccentric but wealthy Aunts and Uncles. The warmth and welcoming Scots hospitality is a treat. And the immense collection of whisky for us to try wasn't bad either :)
