There wasn't any flow to the property. Beds were hard, shower had debris coming out of spout, needs updating.

Average age was 80Posted May 28, 2014 on Hotels.com
Place was packed with two big coach parties who all wanted the breakfast at the same time leading to chaos. Hotel is very long in the tooth and in need of investment, but not likely to get it due to remoteness of Thurso. Staff were helpful and it is central to Thurso.

Comfy bedsPosted May 13, 2014 on Hotels.com
Our room was spotlessly clean, as was the en-suite bathroom, the bed comfortable, the location was central ,but within a short walking distance of the railway station, the staff were helpful and anxious to please,as well as cheerful. All in all a very pleasant stay

Probably one of the warmest rooms I've ever slept in. Staff were great as was the food.

Thurso VisitPosted Apr 26, 2014 on Hotels.com
We used to live in Thurso in the 80s, The Royal was a great place to go then, sadly looks a little tired now, the staff were brilliant, breakfast very good, the bar was a little bland. To sum up, needs some investment, double glazing would be nice, and would take away the late night noise issue. Still good value for money, and a great location.

Needs a little TLCPosted Apr 16, 2014 on Hotels.com
Room and hotel were clean, just could use a little TLC as in touch up on the paint work, fix a few dings in the walls, fix creaky floor boards through out the hotel, update bathrooms. Sits in the middle of town, so convenient to everything in Thurso. Breakfast was the minimum, but ok.

Great servicePosted Mar 30, 2014 on Hotels.com
Good location. The room was at the back so quite a long walk lugging heavy bags. Unfortunately the heating could not be adjusted in the room and we had to ask for it to be turned off, it came back on in the morning and we could not stay in the room as it was just too hot. Breakfast was included in our rate and it was very good.

We were in the Glenlivet suite on this occasion and it was much better than the top floor rooms we were allocated on our last visit. Although the hotel has seen much better days, the staff compensated by being very helpful and friendly.

A Hotel heading into oblivionPosted Oct 30, 2013 on Hotels.com
I used to like this Hotel and it saddens me to see it diving down the plughole. The owners haven't invested money and it's really beginning to show. The staff are struggling to stay interested and committed to their Hotel, but they generally seem to think it's a lost cause. It would be a tragedy for Thurso to lose a 100 + bedroom Hotel. Are Oxford Hotels listening? ..........it doesn't look like it. Sad really. The last straw was being charged a crisp ten pound note for a small bottle of wine and a pint of Strongbow cider and this by the Hotel Manager. We won't be back I'm afraid, despite it being cheap as chips. You to draw the line somewhere.
