"Authentic chateau with modern comfort"
This hotel was a very nice surprise, better than its reviews led me to expect. Gorgeous, authentic, and comfortable.
We spent one night here after a long flight from the US to Paris, en route to Switzerland by car. The first nice surprise was check in. We arrived three hours early, dead on our feet after a turbulent transatlantic flight with no sleep. The owner greeted us, helped us with our luggage to our beautifully furnished room, and we immediately took to the bed, which was clad in good linens. When we awoke for dinner, the shower was another pleasant surprise: freshly renovated, large, good plumbing, and good water pressure.
The grounds of the hotel are charming; well maintained without being overdone. Orange trees in planters lining the front of the chateau predate the French revolution. A huge sycamore tree looks old enough to have been in the revolution, too.
The owner, Comte Guy de Cordon, runs the hotel himself and oversees the maintenance of the property. While dining at the restaurant on the chateau grounds, we saw him watering some newly planted fruit trees as darkness fell, about 10:30 p.m. Perhaps because of his personal involvement, our stay at this hotel was what we imagined guests of a working chateau might have experienced centuries ago. It was tranquil, beautiful, and refreshing. We look forward to coming back when we can stay longer.
