Really needs improvement - very uncomfortable

Pros: The location is good, and the view is great. The sunbeds down on the beach were definitely a plus.
Cons: Hot, dirty, no air conditioning, no real windows, stained sheets
Location: The great view is a result of being up a very steep hill. It would take about 20-25 minutes to walk up the hill to get up to the top from the road.
Mango Lodge really was a budget/backpackers place, but nothing more than that. The biggest positive is the view, which is spectacular, looking out over the water. Unfortunately, there were many problems that took away from the view. Upon first entering the room, it appeared quaint at first, but it was EXTREMELY hot and uncomfortable with NO AIR CONDITIONING in the room. There is a ceiling fan that doesn't really help...it mainly just blows the hot air around. The doors and windows have no insulation (the window in the bathroom had slats open completely to the outside), so the place was very noisy. All night long, while you laid awake with no A/C, you could hear dogs barking, people talking, and very loud birds. Some noise from nature can be soothing, but unfortunately it was really more of a loud racket than gentle noises. Since the slats were open completely to the outside, bugs were flying and crawling around everywhere (lizards in the shower). After the first night, I asked for a standing fan (and was looked at with shock, saying that no one had ever asked for one before) and that helped some, but it was still very difficult to sleep. It's basically camping with a nice view. The bathroom was absolutely disgusting (see attached photos). The shower was moldy, the toilet was gross, and the shelving unit was rusting. The floors and kitchen of the unit were in decent condition, but when we arrived, there were HUGE stains all over the sheets. I cannot imagine how any place like this could be rated more than 1 Star, being so dirty and with no AC. Overall, the location is good, the sunbeds at the beach are a plus, and the chalets are quaint looking at first, but I would never stay here again. If you are expecting a very budget atmosphere, you might be ok, but I would certainly not recommend the Mango Lodge for anyone on a romantic trip.

Everything was perfect! But if you are planning to stay there, you'll defenetely will need a car, as there is a steep way up.

It wouldn't take much to make this into somewhere very special

We spent 3 nights at the lodge at the start of our 3 week tour of the islands. It is in the most wonderul setting with breathtaking views of the Cote d'Or Bay. However, to get there takes some doing without carhire. Staff offer lifts but it's an ad hoc service and some staff are more helpful than others (the receptionist being the most unhelpful, and will willingly drive by smugly). The rooms all look ok but are in serious need of an update. Expect to be eaten alive by the mosquitos - some units have no windows! Breakfast - minimal. Supper - when on offer - pretty good actually
