“2nd stay @ Metropole/Shanghai”

I stayed here three years ago in the summer. This time we stayed in November. We were very satisfied with every aspect of this hotel. Our only disappointment was a missed wake-up call even after three requests to the front desk to insure that we would be called. The art deco environment is beautiful and the location is central to walking to the Bund, Old City, Shanghai Museum and the Nanjing Lu shopping area. All in all it was a pleasant and quite place to stay.

“I'd definitely return to this address!”

Front desk staff extremely helpful and responsive. Hotel, for my needs, was in a PERFECT location. Outstanding breakfast buffet! All in all, for an old "Europe on $5 a Dayer", this was a perfect address. I was fortunate to have a room at the "top" with outstanding views available.

“A very nice Art Deco Hotel”

I stayed at this hotel at the beginning of my trio to China, and stayed again at the end of my China stay. I LIKED it, it was great and the price was right. The staff was conscientious and friendly. The location is very convienent to the Bund and Nanjing shopping, a 5-10 minute walk. Pudong Airport is a 170 RMB ride away, don't fall for the touts that want to charge 350 RMB

“Acceptable- good value”

Metropole Hotel is vintage Art Deco. The lobby is old style and something out of an old movie scene. It was the lowest priced hotel in the area, so I gambled and stayed 3 nights. I got what I asked for-a non smoking room away from the main road. (important as drivers are constantly honking their horns) It's location is excellent - a few blocks from The Bund and Nanjing Rd. My room was big enough, and the bed was almost too hard for my liking. Overall the room was clean but tired looking. The bath was fine but also was in need of a remodel. I suggest passing on the buffet breakfast they offer.

“nice time”

The Metropole sits in the middle of everything. Great location.... my room had 3 sided view of Shanghai and I had a little terrace. the rooms need renovation... and the plumbing was a bit funky. My bath water drained out onto the bathroom floor, my first night. they were quick to fix and clean up. Even though there is a spicket for filtered water in the room.... dont drink it. The restaurant closed at 9pm--- and so does the bar. Skip the breakfast buffet and get streetfood around the corner. The staff was helpful and I would go back.

“Good value and location”

Close walking distance to the Bund, Nanjing Road, and a Metro subway station. Historic looking hotel with friendly, English speaking staff. Need to take a taxi (inexpensive) or the subway (very inexpensive) to reach the other areas of the city: French Concession, Xintiandi, Pudong, etc. The hotel's location is in the business district and has more authentic feel of Shanghai than the more Western-influenced areas of the west part of the city. The street in front of the hotel is busy at all hours, and with the poor sound proofing in the front-facing rooms you can hear street activites throughout the night. However, I would stay here again.

“Nice hote, but not nice city”

Be careful when shopping in Shangai. I was stolen in a shopping center.

“Just what we needed”

The Metropole has a great location. Considering its location, the rooms are very generously proportioned. The furniture is basic, but is clean and comfortable.
