Nanjing Hotel Shanghai - Excellent LOCATIONPosted Sep 22, 2010 on Hotels.com
If you are looking for a hotel, where you would like to spend some time and has an easy access while visiting Shanghai, then choose Nanjing Hotel Shanghai! The hotel might not be the best in the city, but defenately the price/quality relation is really good. The hotel staff had been really helpful and they did speak good english. The room cleaners did a good job to keep the room clean and fresh. They also did boil tap water every day so clean water was available all the time. There is a water boiler available in the room if you need to enjoy your 12 o'clock tea. Unfortunately the room did not have a mini bar available, but there are shops available just next to the hotel entrance. The toilet/shower room worked fine and we did have plenty of hot water available. Our hotel room windows were facing the alleys of Shanghai, which gladly suprised with its' quietness. We were staying at the Nanhing Hotel eight days during Shanghai World Expo 2010 and we did enjoy the central location of hotel. The central shopping district is just behind the corner and I do really mean behind the corner: 20 meters from the hotel entrance. If you want to use the public transpotation, the nearst metro station is located in 40 meters from the hotel entrance. I can recommend this hotel to people who don't need four or five star hotels!

Close to Nanjing RdPosted Jul 24, 2010 on Hotels.com
This hotel is in a good position, very close to nanjing road!!! The only bad thing about this hotel is the bed was so hard, i couldn't sleep!!! But everything else is a must!!! Train Station is close, mini market, nanjing rd, restaurants all in walking distance. Lots of small restaurant just right in front of the hotel. Too bad i only stayed for one day.

No-frills hotelPosted Jul 16, 2010
This is a no-frills hotel. The front desk clerks are not very friendly but did they job. Not very accomodating, but not rude either. Overall, a "comfortable enough" stay. Nice looking outside and lobby, but rooms are very simple, with poor ventilation. If you open the windows, there is an ugly smell of cooking and more from the neighborhood. The airconditioner is not the best. The bathroom had some mold, and is not in the best maintenance. The carpet had some stains. The bed was HARD, as they are supposed to be in all of China. Ask for room on 4th floor and up. We ended up using the room only to sleep, as we would leave to go sightseeing early in the morning and come back late at night to sleep. So the room served its purpose, especially because of the low price. If you plan on spending much time in the room, better go to another hotel. The best thing about the hotel was its close proximity to Nanjing pedestrian road, just about 100 feet away, down the rundown street where the hotel is. Also, the subway is about 150 feet away from the hotel and in Shanghai the subway is very efficient and cheap.

Nanjing Hotel - ShanghaiPosted Jul 16, 2010 on Hotels.com
I was a lone traveller in Shanghai for 3 days after a business trip in Nanjing. I booked this hotel as it was cheap and I am expecting myself out in the street most of the time. - Small Room, carpet was old. Room cartered to my basic. Found the lighting was quite dim. - TV with many Chinese programmes - Internet charge at 0.1RMB per min but cap at 20 RMB for 24 hours (12pm-1159am next day). - Staff was helpful since I was able to communicate with them in Chinese. - 2 problems encountered during my stay, window lock damaged when i inspect the room and door lock broke down on my 2nd & 3rd day. Both were resolved immediately. - Very convenient location, 2 min walk to East Nanjing Station and Nanjing street. 10 min walk to the Bund. There was a convenient store just opposite the hotel and MacDonald/KFC along Nanjing Road for Breakfast. - Always ask for higher floor. I was staying at low 4th floor and my room view was the dirty ceiling of outside buildings. Did not open the windows since the aircondition was working well. When I checked out on the 13 Jul, overheard that the hotel was fully booked till 24 Jul. Overall stay was expected due to the cost and definitely will be staying next time if I am not with my family.

Bed is WAY TOO HARD!! You won't get a good night's rest. Location & staff was great though.Posted Jul 7, 2010
Hotel was in a great great location. Nanjing Rd was our backyard, Metro is a leisurely stroll away. Typical 2 star hotel, clean, no fuss, no luxury. Staff was great and spoke english! Better English than most places in Shanghai. But the bed was way too hard!! It ruined my stay because I could not get a good night's rest. I will stay in a better hotel w/ MUCH softer beds next time.

NO air conditioning at nightPosted Jun 22, 2010
Well located, but the air condition was turned off at night (we stayed there in May); they asked us to open the window, but the street was noisy and smelled bad.

Nanjing Hotel ShanghaiPosted May 31, 2010 on Hotels.com
The Nanjing Hotel is in an excellent location. We walked everywhere (so many people though) The hotel itself is very old. I think it was built in 1936. It could definetely do with a makeover. The room was quite big, but the bathroom was very dark and the toilet was so low to the ground, it felt like sitting on a camping toilet. The room was quite stuffy and when we complained that the air conditioner was not working, we were told that the Chinese Government does not allow the use of air conditioners unless the temperature is above 28c. We didnt have this problem in Beijing, Xian or Chengdu, so maybe the law applies to Shanghai only!!!!!! The location of the hotel couldnt be better. So many places to eat and shop, right near the underground station and walking distance to the Bund. The ferry takes you across to the Pudong side and it was so cheap. The staff at the front desk didnt smile much and some had difficulty with the english language. Having said that I suppose it wouldnt hurt for us to learn a little of their language, and then maybe communication wouldnt be so difficult.
