Good location

Posted May 1, 2014
Pros: Location
Cons: Looking tired so could do with a revamp. More seating area in the reception area would be good as this is where the WIFI is.
Location: Close to subway and walking distance to some nice cafes
Our stay here was pleasant. Handy location with 10 min walk to subway line 2. Hotel looking tired but worked fine for us.

Hotel needs improvement

Posted Apr 19, 2014 on Hotels.com
The hotel was a disappointment. Bedroom at the eleventh floor need to refit urgently, the room was dirty with stains on almost every piece of furniture. Thankfully, they moved us to the upper floor rooms was pretty much better.

lots of food in surrounding neighborhood

Posted Feb 18, 2014 on Hotels.com
The hotel was clean and the front desk spoke English. The first room we were given was very cold but we had no issues getting a new room which was much warmer. The beds were comfortable and the hotel staff were very attentive. There is free wifi in the lobby and wifi/internet in the rooms for a small fee. They have breakfast in the hotel but I never tired it. I would recommend going out side to eat. Cafe1919 (across the street) has great western breakfast and the Yunnan kitchen which is a short walk away has a great lunch menu. There are also several other food establishments near by and some convenience stores/fruit stands. This hotel is also near Yu Yuan (Yu Garden).I recommend this hotel since it is in a good area near a lot of good food.

Older Hotel is Suficient

Posted Nov 7, 2013 on Hotels.com
This hotel is a bit older. The room was clean, although dated. The beds were firm and not as comfortable as some of the new hotels. The room was also very warm...we had to open the windows to try and cool it down. The staff was o.k. Probably will not stay here again, upon returning to Shanghai. There are better rooms for the same money.

Room was just ok and low cost benefits were quickly eliminated with cost of internet and breakfast fees. Bed was hard and bathroom small

Dated, but high-value chinese hotel

Posted May 30, 2013
This hotel opened in the late 70s with some distinction -- the first chinese built, owned, and operated 5-star hotel in shanghai. It seems to have been modeled on Hilton hotels of the time. Since then, not much has changed, it seems. The decor, furnishings, etc., seem to be in a time warp. My room (an "executive room") was spacious, absolutely clean, with first rate linens and amenities. Wifi -- which was free -- worked fine. Even the bath, with separate shower, was large and comfortable. The room, along with the rest of the hotel, was also showing its age -- carpet a little worn, decor quite dated, and furnishings a little scuffed-up. And it is important to recognize that this is a Chinese hotel -- the staff's english is marginal, the food and service may disappoint a western traveler, and the restaurants, bars, etc., are not up to international standards. However. There are a lot of things to recommend this hotel. The location (a diagonal block from the Hilton) is very good, if you need to be in JingAn. Taxis are available and it's a 5-10 minute walk to the subway. It is a short walk to many good restaurants or the shopping of Nanjing Xi Lu. They also have created several non-smoking floors, so the smoke of typical chinese hotels can be largely avoided. And perhaps most importantly, it offers very high value. For the price, the room, amenities, and location are a bargain.

Tech needs to be upgrated

Posted Oct 25, 2012
Location: Superb location shops are everywhere and easy to get around.
These need to be improved, such as poor reception, slow internet connection, wifi on and off

Adequate - could improve

Posted Mar 7, 2012 on Hotels.com
The location is good, handy for access without being right in middle. The staff can be a bit brusque and their English is not great. The decor is starting to look a little jaded and could benefit from a little refurbishment. In my room, there were deep scratch marks on the desk and the TV plug was loose. The TV's are old fashioned too. There is an air of unjustified complacency about the hotel. On the plus side, the breakfast choice was good, the rooms are big and kept clean. The Spa on the 2nd Floor should not be missed!

Decent Hotel in a very convenient location

Posted Nov 8, 2011
This hotel is very close to the Jing'An Temple Metro station. It it also very close to the shopping district on Nanjing Road. The property itself is a bit old and the rooms show their age, but it's fairly clean for the most part and super convenient if you want to be close to shopping and transportation. I only stayed for a night, so I think this hotel is great for a short stay where you just need something basic.
