Top QualityPosted May 10, 2013 on Hotels.com
Even being located in an old building, it doesn't mean that old is bad. The condition of the hotel are perfect, very good service. You can notice the quality of the hotel by the thickness of the carpet when you step on it. Very nice hotel.

The best hotel I have ever stayed atPosted May 5, 2013
Pros: The decor, the staff, the view, the eye for detail.
Cons: Having to leave it
Location: Terrific location overlooking the Bund.
The best hotel I have ever stayed at. I have always liked the Waldorf Astoria in New York, and this hotel has the same feel and a similar decor but with even greater style. I had a superior room with a spectacular river view. The room, especially the bathroom, was magnificent. I couldn't find anything to fault. My wife and I loved every minute of our stay.

DisappointingPosted Apr 30, 2013
Pros: Great bedroom with lots of high tech features.
Cons: Poor staff attitude and cooking smells from coffee shop
Location: Perfectly located on the Bund
It is a luxury hotel which seems to need more hands-on management. The staff are not highly motivated and many do not acknowledge guests at all. The design means that smells from the coffee shop go all through the lobby and lounge areas. We had stayed expecting an outstanding experience. We were disappointed.

A gem on the BundPosted Apr 20, 2013 on Hotels.com
One can easily get used to the comfort and service offered by WA. Well done. The hotel has been beautifully restored and one can only imagine what it would have been like to have stayed as a guest in days gone by!

Waldorf Astoria StayPosted Apr 7, 2013 on Hotels.com
The hotel lobby was sparse, but beautiful. The room and the view were amazing. The daily breakfast was delicious. The service all over the hotel was excellent. The bed was extremely comfortable. The bathroom could have been a little cleaner. The Japanese electronic toilet was fun! You had to take short taxi rides to get anywhere. The long bar was way too smokey! Overall, if I had to stay in Shanghai again, I would definitely stay here.

Good Hotel but Restaurant Prices are Riculous!Posted Apr 4, 2013
This is a very good hotel BUT.....the prices in their dinning rooms and bars is simply outrageous! This is especially true given the very average quality of the food. While guests of course are not required to use hotel restaurants and bars you would think that prices would not need to be so ridiculous. It really makes you feel ripped off. I have travelled extensively to all parts of the world and stayed in five star establishments but have never come across such high prices!

Great Hotel for those wanting the BestPosted Mar 21, 2013
Cons: Aircond. only in rooms, no opening windows.
Location: Very central to many attractions.
Excellent King Room overlooking the Bund on the 15th floor (request high floor for best view). Meals excellent at approximate Australian prices, except for Pellhams which although the food was brilliant, was over the top in price and wine is expensive.

Total luxuryPosted Dec 20, 2012
Pros: The view posoyion and the superb building.
Cons: expect to pay a lot for food and drink
Location: very central
Expensive but worth it. Make sure you get the buffet breakfast included in your itinerary as all teh food and drink is astronomically expensive, eg a hamburger to the room is around $50 aus. THe staff are very friendly but tend not to want to recommend local attractions. Make sure you visit yu yuan gardens which is only 10 minutes walk. WE also enjoyed the morning walk around that area which is the old part of town. Food market there is a real eye opener. Overall a great hotel, in fact the best one we have ever visited.

Luxurious hotel ruined by lukewarm staffPosted Dec 5, 2012 on Hotels.com
I am a regular at Peace Hotel and wanted to give Waldorf Astoria a go this time around. The hotel is absolutely gorgeous! Our Double Queen Deluxe Room is generous sized and even better than expected. The downfall: This hotel is still not very well known in Shanghai so most Taxi drivers don't know the way yet. The service is quite terrible. Not many smiling faces and only willing to help once asked. Expected more for a five star hotel.
