Perfect location for County Fairground eventsPosted Sep 6, 2013 on Hotels.com
After reading previous reviews I was a bit apprehensive, but all my concerns were unfounded. The location was very convenient for the Shelby Hamfest, on the same road as the Cleveland County Fairgrounds and only about a mile away. The hotel staff was very friendly, the room was clean and comfortable. The free breakfast was the style you would expect, but was kept well stocked and clean. There is a chain diner-style restaurant right next door and a BBQ across the street. It is also only a few minutes from downtown Shelby and more great restaurants (the brick oven pizza was amazing). The only reason I didn’t give maintenance a 5 was because the 2nd floor ice machine was out of order all weekend and the pool wasn’t maintained as well as it could have been. One tiny suggestion to the hotel: Include TV channel guides in the rooms. It is very annoying to have to surf through every channel (that each take a few seconds to appear) to find one you might be interested in. I come to Shelby every year for this event and as long as they keep it in this great condition, I will be sure to stay here.

Where is that hose going?Posted Jun 30, 2013 on Hotels.com
All was well until checkout. At that time, I exited the front door and a contractor placed a septic hose on the ground in the front lobby. Fortunately, I was able to get around it with no contact in the same area. As I waited on my business associate at the vehicle, I wondered what was taking so long. Upon arrival, he asked if I saw the septic hose. Then he advised it was hooked up in the front lobby and had leaked when the truck started pumping raw sewage, which caused him to have to use a different exit. To be fair, he said it was only a relatively small area and the pumping was stopped quickly. However, we could never stay there again. How is it there is a connector inside the main lobby for such a task?

I would have been happier to know beforehand that the hotel was converting to Comfort Inn overnight! The plastic over our window was disconcerting, as was the construction outside. However, amazing work was done overnight, and it turned out better than I expected. The breakfast room staff and another person who heated and served us cookies at night were wonderful!

Horrible, if you want comfort, sleep or a friendly staff, stay somewhere else.Posted Dec 29, 2010
Checkin- it was 2pm, I was told in an unfriendly voice to come back later- there were two cars in the lot. I wasn't early. I doubt the rooms were all full. Maybe they don't like checking in in guests. After I said we wouldn't be back until around 9pm, she clicked her computer and gave us a room. It was on the top floor and at the far end - about 25 rooms down the hall from the elevator. Huff that with two elderly parents! It was beside the vending machine, so this is the spite room, when they really hate you. When I went into the room, it appeared uncleaned,-feather bed cover was all lumpy. They washed/dried it and created hot-cold spots. Noticed during sleep. Extra blanket, NO. Asked, never came. breakfast a joke, 2nd morning none at all. Snowing and 21 degrees - they blocked portico outside for staining - forced to walk in icy grass with 78 y/o parents. Elevator stopped on 2nd day, pulled parents up stairwell. Noisy as hell both nites until 2 and 3am due to wedding party that weekend on both nights. Called desk but nothing happened. 8:45 am, maid knocked on door to see if we were leaving. Obviously we were an inconvenience to the staff. carried luggage down stairs - still broken elevator. We check out at 10am and as I waited in line I noticed people in front were checking in... guess they have rooms for only certain people and we didn't qualify.
