Sheldon is not the only place in Western Iowa worth exploring; DIY travelers should head off and experience the unique qualities of the surrounding landscapes, towns and cities. About 50 miles (80 kilometers) to the northwest of Sheldon is Sioux Falls, an important regional center and the home of Augustana College, Great Plains Zoo and Sioux Falls Arena. Sioux Falls has lots to offer those willing to stay for a day or two.
