Decent hotel.

My first trip to china and I was quite impressed by this hotel. The room was spacious and well maintained. Comfortable and more than adequate. Nothing 'western' around though and the food in the hotel is so-so. I ordered room service on the first night, which was quite good. However, when I tried to do it again on the second night I couldn't find the menu in my room. I called down to reception to be told that they no longer did room service. Very strange...

exaggeration

Posted Jun 10, 2013 on Hotels.com
I thought the hotel was a bit exaggerated, the hotel staff was bi- linguel by three to four words of english. The western restaurant was musty, dirty and did not use proper sanitiation and hotel practices. Compaired to the chinese restaurant on the third floor which was clean bright and much better looking, the western restaurant was a joke. The beds where extremely uncomfortable and the hotel itelself smelled musty and a lack of sweepers, kept the floors dirty with whatever guest dragged in. The carpet in my room had multiple stains and marking of i'm not sure what. Checking in was difficult, because of language barriers, and even though I had the print out of my reservation, they seem to have no idea of what was going on, and a security deposite was almost the cost of the room for the time I stayed, which took a cut into my spending money. Over all like I said this hotel was exaggerated and needs to be reveiwed, by hotel.com secret shoppers.

Know what you are getting

Jisheng Hotel was great, but... you need to understand what you are getting. Western (especially American) hotels and Chinese hotels are not the same. The bed was rock hard, typical of a Chinese bed. The room was clean, even if the carpet was a little dingy. My husband and I chose Jisheng because it was affordable and convenient to the Universiade complex. We both speak minimal Chinese and have stayed in Chinese hotels many times. The hotel staff did a great job of trying to keep us satisfied when we had random western requests (they brought ice to our room every night and devoted some time to making sure our internet options were open). they were really wonderful. They did not really speak very much English though. (Our rotten Chinese was the better language.) We had the available breakfast. It was adequate. If you are going to the Universiade complex, there is a local bus that will very conveniently take you there. Look it up on Baidu if you know how, or ask the hotel staff to help you. All in all, this is a great place to stay with great staff, but if it is your first stay in a Chinese hotel, you might find it different.
