Nearly, but not quite. Posted Jan 30, 2012 on Hotels.com
Overall my abiding memeory is that the hotel is good, but with a few little improvements could be so much better First the good things: I was upgraded to a larger double when I got there, and the room was lovely, and comfortable. Breakfast was fantastic, really good, and i thoroughly recommend it. i had the smoked salmon with poached eggs, and the eggs were perectly done. The juice was fresh, and even the butter for the toast was spreadable! The coffee was really good as well I managed to use the gym, and that was fine, for what i needed. The complimentary tolietries, particularly the shampoo and coditioner smelt wonderful, just a shame I couldnt get the conditioner out of the bottle, because it was too thick. I spent 5 minutes shaking it and struggling to get it out, and when it did a big blob of it went in my eye! I can be clumsy at the best of times, but it defeated me despite all my efforts. If the bottles were slightly softer, you could actually squeeze what's inside them out without struggling. The bread at dinner was wonderful, the best I have ever tasted Now for the niggles: When i arrived the receptionist at the front desk was talking to two other guests and proceeded to go off with them, without a word. I was left standing at reception for 10 minutes until he came back. That really wasnt good service. The mattress on the bed was too small for the base, so i was constantly bumping my leg against the base, a pain, literally It was nigh on impossible to get the shower to the right temperature. One second it was too cold, and if you adjusted it it was too hot, to the point of burning you. Please sort that out, as it could be dangerous The toilet seat was wobbly The containers the complimentary tolietries came in were too hard so you couldnt get out what was in them. For the first time in my life i thought i would try the hotel's shoe polishing service, what a mistake. I had an important meeting in the morning so asked the hotel to polish my shoes, but they came back covered in polish. So i then i had to spend 10 minutes wiping the polish off them, and proceeded to get shoe polish on my clothes as well in the process. If you are going to offer a service, then please make sure that you know what you are doing, otherwise you look foolish. Dinner was bit of a disapointment. i had the gnocchi, which were great, but they came smothered in pesto, and they were sitting in a pile of pesto, where the oil had separated, making them a bit greasy, not what I would expect for £19. Overall, I think the hotel offers good value considering what I paid, but if I had paid full price for the upgraded room I had, I think i would have been disappointed. The problems could have been easily solved, which would have made a good hotel in a great one. Please sort it out Mr Bannatyne!
