Too high an expectation from Heritage HotelPosted Aug 8, 2014
Cons: a lot - exhaust fan in the bathroom, airconditioning for summers, breakfast buffet. better interiors- and not poorly finished wood /vinyl furniture
Location: well located on the mall - good place to start walk to Jakhu temple, a long walk to Viceregal lodge is great too
The stay was generally confortable but there was high expecation from a so called Heritage hotel belonging to Oberoi group. The room was quite small and not classy nor heritage for almost a $140 (with taxes) hotel. There's no arrangement for cooling or ventilation - and Shimla now does get warm in summers so either one has to keep windows open or suffer a table fan provided. No breakfast buffet - it was not easy to get what you ordered...

Oberoi's????Posted Jun 22, 2014
Billing desk is terrible and does not seem to be Oberoi's Standard.

Extremely friendly servicePosted Jun 5, 2014 on Hotels.com
Hotel Oberoi Clarke's has the X-factor; a combination of efficiency, cleanliness and friendliness that makes for a great stay. Its location, the sense of heritage and the obvious pride that its staff exhibits marks it out as a great boutique hotel. By the way, Shikha's guest handling capabilities and its chef's Himachali cooking is noteworthy.

We spent one night at Clarke's Hotel in May 2014. The hotel is located close to The Mall Lift and has designated parking. On arrival we were upgraded to The Suite which was Valley facing, spacious and comfortable. Hotel staff is very courteous and goes extra mile to serve you. On our request Dinner was served later than kitchen hours in our room. Food was delicious, fresh and had variety to choose from. Checkin check out was smooth. Overall a very good hotel, I will recommend surely. Thanks to the wonderful staff to make our stay memorable.

A characterful hotel in a good locationPosted Dec 12, 2013
Pros: It has a wonderful views across town and looks warm and welcoming. Close to staircase for taxi.
Cons: Shame the best view is from the conference room instead of the dining room which is downstairs. Could do with new carpets and sound insulation
Location: Very quick into town for shopping on the Mall and lower bazaar. Easy access to Church and path to the Monkey Temple. Good walk East from the hotel

Heritage hotel with great location in poor conditiPosted Apr 29, 2013 on Hotels.com
This hotel is in a great location for exploring Shimla as it is located on the Mall road. The hotel emphasises its heritage and history constantly which does provide it with character. However, for a 4* hotel that is part of the Oberoi chain and for its cost, the hotel is disappointing in its condition. The rooms are clearly dated as are the communal areas. One of our two rooms had a very unpleasant smell coming from the bathroom which we asked the hotel staff to sort out while we went out to explore but it was not fully resolved and lingered. There were other features that were not great: the safe in one of the rooms was locked on arrival, there was no complimentary water in the room unlike the 5 other hotels we stayed in India, we were told we would have to wait until 10am the next day when I asked at 11pm for a wifi voucher and the staff told us we could not email them a flight ticket to print off. All in all, especially considering the cost of the hotel rooms, it was a disappointing stay. We had stayed at Wildflower Hall, another Oberoi hotel, slightly outside of Shimla which was a fantastic hotel and this may have coloured our experience slightly but other hotels we stayed in India for a fifth of the price of Clarkes were also more enjoyable stays.

A relaxed step back in timePosted Mar 1, 2012 on Hotels.com
A really enjoyable stay at this top class hotel. Staff were excellent . Only slight criticism is the wifi charges but they did recommend a good internet cafe at about one fifth the price.

Clarke's hotel the mall shimla - unpreferred roomPosted Jun 16, 2011 on Hotels.com
The hotel property is a heritage but frankly its just an old building as seen from outside. The major set back we faced was the room itself as there was small and with no view, the only window that just opened into the corridor where other guests could simply pass by and look into our room directly so we just had to keep it closed all the time. If any Hotels.com user books this hotel please beware of the choice of room.
