Beautiful building with outside garden and car park. Couldn’t fault the food, the room, our hosts, nothing was to much trouble. My partner, dog and I had an excellent stay. Will definitely stay again.

Pleasant, but not 'boutique' quality
Perfectly serviceable and pleasant, but this isn't of boutique standard and it's hard to justify the price. It lacks the flourishes and attention to detail that would justify the high ratings, though you'll get a perfectly reasonable room. Breakfast too is unremarkable.

Great stay. Lovely room. Superb breakfast, such a shame I have no appetite at the moment thanks to covid, otherwise I would have polished it off, it was so delicious. Just a shame a fellow guest put a lovely scratch in our car door, cheers for that!

Ok if unspectacular.
The pub looks quite attractive, and the rooms were fine and clean. However, my bed had a plastic undersheet which I had to take off to prevent sweating in during the night. The food was of budget quality and a bit overpriced. There was a large dog roaming around which growled when I tried to stroke it, so if you are there with children be careful.

Hi John, Thanks for your review- sorry you didn't feel like telling us any of your issues while you were here. As you said everything was ok with your stay when I asked you on checkout. The food is definitely not of 'budget' quality as all is either made in house or sourced from local farms and butchers. Merlin is a lovely dog but doesn't particularly like strangers approaching him(as I'm sure you wouldn't) so lets you know to leave him alone with a grumble- he's also never left alone when children are present. Might I suggest not trying to stroke dogs you don't know without permission?

Lovely comfortable beds, good variety of teas etc, provided us with a good breakfast bag when we needed to be away early the next day. Will stay with them again when we're in the area again.

Comfortable and convenient
Slight delay in checking-in. Staff helpful and friendly. Public rooms (bar area and residents' lounge) and car park in need of renovation / tidy-up. Bedroom nicely decorated but no adequate drawer space and limited hanging space. If the bed was standard double in place of king-size, there might be room to accommodate a small chest of drawers. Bedside lighting poor. Secondary glazing panels too tightly fixed to move so impossible to deaden noise from passing traffic / at traffic light junction. Two cracked panes in sash window. Bathroom ok but bath overly generous in size and not easy to get in and out of. It's an old and lovely house so one has to make allowances. Food excellent (especially breakfast) with delicious locally-sourced products. I'd stay again as it's good value for money.

A perfect place to stay for exploring.
The hotel was easy to find with a spacious car park. Checking in was simple.The staff were extremely welcoming and attentive. The room was very neat and tidy with just the right amount of personal touches without going over the top. The choice of beverages was more than adequate. The bed was very comfortable and there was only the occasional bit of road noise, but as we live in a rural area we always tend to notice this. The bar was welcoming and the local ale had a good flavour. We ate in the restaurant which had a varied menu. The food was well cooked and very tasty. The portion size was good. The wine list was also varied and our choice met all expectations. The breakfast again was tasty and also a good portion. The teapot didn't haven't an annoying drip, more common than you would think, and there was also a choice of continental and cold breakfast choices. Would we use the hotel again? Definitely yes, it is ideally placed for local attractions which was our reason for choosing the hotel in the first place.

The staff were exceptional in terms of helpfulness and friendliness, Emma and Sarah in particular deserve many congratulations. The hotel rooms are fine, bathrooms “quirky”. Satellite TV unreliable and several food and wine choices limited in their availability.

A great place to stay
We were made to feel very welcome by the staff. Food excellent but made when ordered so not the fastest service. It must be advertised as a dog friendly hotel as most guests had one? It's in an excellent position to visit local attractions, although on the edge of the town so not in walking distance of any other establishments.

Excellent food. Friendly staff. Nice toiletries, dressing gowns & slippers. Good selection of tea, coffee, biscuits & chocs. Unfortunately bed was uncomfortable, window wouldn't open, shower attachment didn't work properly, no loo brush & there was very little drawer space. However we did enjoy our stay!

Well worth a re-visit!
Staff were really welcoming and astonishingly attentive. The food was great and the hotel, though old and interesting had been modernised very well. We especially liked the imaginative installation of mirrors in the entrance. The menus for evening meal and dinner were very varied and the range of vegan / vegetarian options was really good. The vegan burger (with vegan cheese) was excellent.

Well worth a visit
Lovely, boutique hotel with wonderful views of the countryside albeit situated on a fairly busy road . However , don’t let this put you off as our room was delightful. A lot of attention to detail has gone into the room which is spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was very tasty and sourced from local produce. Good value considering it was a holiday week
