Overnight stay

Posted Jan 29, 2015
Pros: Right in the centre. It's an old coaching inn. Room rate includes breakfast.
Cons: Stairway accessing bedrooms.
Location: Near to the station and the shops at the centre of Shrewsbury. About a five minute walk to the river, with pubs and restaurants en route.
The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. They we're happy to organise breakfast earlier than the usual time so that I could make an early getaway. The room was excellent, and clean, with a large bathroom. During the night the room was a little hot, but as I was so tired I couldn't be bothered to get up to find out how to turn the heat down!! I am sure it was adjustable. The only downside was the stairway accessing the corridor for the bedrooms. This was fairly drab and not very clean but it was evident that it was in the process of being decorated. Access to the bedrooms is via two lots of stairs.

Night out stopover

Stayed here as the cost was the same as a taxi - the breakfast made it even better. Staff were very good, and noise didnt bother us at all.

Very central, easy to find, good value

Posted Jan 26, 2015
Pros: Lovely building. Very central.
Cons: Could do with a curtain in bathroom!,
Location: Museum is fabulous. Shrewsbury is full of interesting buildings. New market hall is good. Loads of decent places to eat out, esp The Lion.
Spent a weekend. Very enjoyable. Friendly accommodating staff. Very interesting building, full of character and modernised very sensitively. Warm and confortable. we took the advice of previous visitors and arrived by train to avoid parking problems. Train station and all shops, museum etc within 5 mins walking distance.

Good, clean hotel with great character

Posted Nov 28, 2014
Pros: The food was great and I thought the hotel was good value
Cons: The shower in my room was either boiling hot or freezing cold and either way you only got a trickle of water. The room was quite cold.
The hotel was really nice, food and staff were both excellent, it's still has a lot of old fashioned character but is refurbished well and very comfortable.

Good, old-fashioned inn

Posted Oct 30, 2014
Cons: It would be nice to have a shaving socket in the bathroom.
Location: It is right in the centre, with lots of pubs and restaurants, plus the town itself is a lovely old market town that is worth walking around.
This former coaching inn provided a friendly welcome. The room was spacious with en suite shower; for those who prefer baths, there is an external bathroom shared between other rooms. The pub part of the inn serves a good selection of real ales and the landlord was very friendly. Breakfast in the morning was served rather than a buffet. It was large and filling - there was a choice of types of breakfast, but I went for the large full English. The hotel itself is right in the centre of Shrewsbury.

Good enough for the price.

Fine for the price. Friendly service. Bit noisy, but it is a pub and it was a Saturday night! Good breakfast.

Pros: the hotel is in the centre of town ,so you are near to most things.
Cons: cannot think of anything
had a nice time here ,enjoyed shrewsbury and its real ale pubs ,breakfast was spot on and very filling. the staff were helpful and let us leave our case so we could pick it up later on . the only slight down side was it got a little noisey at night but after all this is a pub as well.
