The Good Life at Tenuta Santo PietroPosted Jun 15, 2012
Pros: comfort, location, food, built-in travel advisor
Location: perfectly located a few kilometers from both Pienza and Montepulciano
Our stay here really "made" our Tuscan vacation. After traveling around Florence and northern Tuscany for a week, we planned to stay in one place for the second week of our trip and just make day trips in the area. What a good choice it was! We adored this inn. It's small (12 rooms) and beautifully restored with an authentic old world feel. It's tastefully, but rustically, decorated so the feel is upscale but informal. It is quiet, calming and luxurious. The grounds are absolutely exquisite with manicured lawns edged with rosemary and lavender bushes, a hammock hangs appealingly in the perfect spot with a breathtaking view, and the swimming pool overlooks the olive groves and vineyards. Giuseppe is the consummate host, offering (in his perfect English) advice on local sites, restaurants, etc. Last, but not least, the food is to die for. We hadn't planned to, but wound up eating there almost every night because it was so good and the setting was lovely. Try the pork sausages with red wine reduction (made with their own delicious red wine) and the spinach and ricotta ravioli with cacio e pepe. The breakfasts (included in the price of the room) are bountiful and delicious. When we were there we found a buffet overflowing with vegetable tarts (like quiche, but better), fresh fruit, frittatas, fresh pastries, homemade jams, fresh juices, yogurt, and yummy coffee. You can't go wrong at Santo Pietro.
