“An Exceptional Chinatown Area Hotel In Singapore”

The Amara Singapore is a beautiful, spotlessly clean, well situated, and extremely friendly hotel in the Chinatown section of Singapore. The hotel is a few blocks from two MRT stations, many key tourist spots, superb Hawker (food) courts, and easily accessible from the airport. The public areas and the 6th floor outdoor pool are top notch as are the good sized rooms with all the amenities. Housekeeping was exceptional. However, the most impressive aspect of the hotel was the staff-totally efficient, friendly and genuinely concerned with every aspect of your stay. The Expedia rate made it great value for price. I did not eat in any of the many hotel restaurants as there were numerous less expensive options in the area. My 9th floor room had a fine view, was totally quiet, had comfortable beds, and excellent bath products. While there are more extracagant hotels in Singapore, this is an excellent reasonably proced alternative.

“Nice one Amara!”

This hotel was ideally situated for me as it was just down the road from Chinatown (5mins walk), 5-10mins taxi ride to the triple tower shopping complex and much the same distance to a very impressive Vivo shopping complex. There are also plenty of eating places all around the Amara as well as in the hotel. I was suitabley impressed by this hotel and would have no hesitation in booking it again. The staff here are very obliging and extremely helpful. The only small hitch was that on the floor above mine there was some work being done (drilling/hammering) which was suppose to finish at 6.30pm but as it was 8.30pm I rang the hotel customer service Manager and it stopped within 5 mins :) You won't be disappointed with the Amara!!

You can't complain too much in Singapore for this price. I was a little disappointed as the photos made the place look a lot newer than it turned out to be. I think that some of the rooms need a little makeover, but I did enjoy my stay here. The service levels are slightly lower than I expected for a South East Asian hotel chain (I kept thinking it would be more like the Thai Amari chain - but basing this only on the similarity of the name!). The restaurants on site were great - especially the Thai one. I didn't get to use the pool but it looked good enough. I did make use of the gym facilities and they had all you need for a short trip. Location-wise it is very good - just a short walk away from the SMRT. It took 50 minutes to get to the airport - door to door - which I though was great. I would stay here again and recommend it to anyone else - for the price range. Definitely great for a business trip.

Hotel was clean and tidy, room was a decent size with a huge bed!! Gym was good and pool and outside area was lovely. Only a 5 min walk from Chinatown and close to the MRT station so really handy for shopping and restaurants etc! Breakfast was good however overpriced, but plenty of coffee shops and local eateries around so you didnt have to eat at the hotel. Opposite a supermarket which was also helpful. Had no probelms walking around at night time alone. I would recommend this hotel for sure!

“Amara”

The Amara hotel was a perfect "layover" hotel. It was easy to get to and from the airport. It was close enough to walk to Chinatown. The hotel was very clean and the staff friendly and helpful. I enjoyed the fact that it was not your typical "tourist" hotel. I loved the market across the street and the flavor of the neighborhood.

“Nice hotel, good location”

We stayed at the Amara for 3 nights with our teenage children. The hotel was very comfortable, and exceeded our expectations. The pool is lovely, and very welcome in the heat of Singapore. Breakfast was not included, but this isn't a problem as there is a shopping centre attached to the hotel, a supermarket just across the road, a bakery with fresh waffles, and a food court (for traditional chinese food) just up the road. Although the hotel is in the Business District it's just a 10 minute walk from Chinatown. There's an MRT stop just around the corner for easy access to the city. Staff were friendly and helpful, and arranged for an extra guest bed in one of our rooms at short notice.

“Not impressed”

I was expected lit more because of hotel positioning & visitors review. In fact i met not so plesant guy on reception while checking-in. My flight back was at 2 a.m. so i requested for late check-out, the same guy gave time just till 2 p.m. - it didn't help me.

“A pleasant get-away from Orchard Road”

Very helpful porters and concierge desk staff. However the front desk staff could use some training on guest appreciation techniques - in my experience (this was my second visit) they are monosyllabic, unsmiling, pre-occupied, dismissive almost. Probably the least friendly front desk staff I have come across in Singapore - I don't know why they are like that. The guest rooms are comfortable and light. The Internet service is fast and reliable - IIRC it is supplied by DOCOMO interTouch from Japan. The adjoining mall has some great breakfast spots if you are not signed up for the hotel buffet and the local neighborhood has a pleasant laid back village feel to it - a welcome change of pace from the madness of Orchard Road .
