Nice location

Posted Jun 30, 2015
Pros: Hotel staff was OK, worked to get us in before normal check-in.
Cons: It would be nice, especially at the price paid for the room(s) if they provided at least a continental breakfast.
Location: Sitka is a small town with almost everything in walking distance. The exceptions are the Bears and the Beer tastings. Bring some good walking shoes.
We had just gotten off a cruise and arrived a bit before the normal check-in time and had to wait around for a while. The staff put our bags in a closet during the wait time so we could walk around town. When my wife and I did check-in the room was rather small and the bed requested on the original reservation was listed as a queen size, it was a twin. Although the room was clean the paint on the walls was scratched up from luggage and chairs. Having been to Sitka before I would have expected the weather to be cold and raining, but the sun was out and it warm. This made the room exceptionally warm (south facing view room) and there was only a small noisy exhaust fan to cool the room down. We ended up opening the window to cool things down, which allows the street and parking lot noise in. Luckily there is not a lot of night life in Sitka, so by 11:00 PM it was quite outside. There was no breakfast available at the hotel, not sure who owns or operates the restaurant there, but it wasn't open until 11:00 AM. You have two choices, walk into town to the parent hotel, The Westmark or to the Fly and Fish Inn. Fly and Fish in was nice and a bit cheaper too. It would have been nice, especially with the prices paid for the room to at least have a continental breakfast provided.

Well located hotel

Posted Jun 29, 2015
Pros: Good staff and shuttle available
Cons: Communication between Expedia and the hotel to ensure booking is registered
Location: Well positioned to town and shopping
When we arrived our booking was not noted. The staff did well to put us into their emergency room which was excellent.

Poor choice in Sitka

Posted Jun 12, 2015
Pros: Location , restaurant
Cons: Badly needs upgrades. More thought given to guest comfort. Would not recommend.
Small room, cheap. Few amenities. Good location. Good restaurant.

The hotel is in a pleasant location but it is overpriced and has virtually no amenities; no gym, no breakfast facility. The bathrooms have soap dispensers which is unfortunate in a hotel that expensive. The towels were hard ant thin. Overall: overpriced - by a lot.

First room offered was unacceptable

Posted May 24, 2015
We arrived around 11 PM because we missed our plane connection out of Seattle. We were initially put into a room with one double bed. There is no way that two people could sleep in that bed. You could see that the room was supposed to have two beds because the head board for the second bed was still attached to the wall. When we complained, they put us into a room.

Got stranded and got some sleep

Posted Dec 13, 2014
All in all the hotel was just fine for what was needed. Our flight to Juneau was diverted to Sitka and needed a place to stay. Booked through Expedia while others tried to call the hotels directly and Expedia came through like a champ! Go two rooms and was able to get to sleep and back on the flight the next morning care of the complimentary hotel shuttle (a big plus!) that was part of the service. The room was comfortable facing the harbor and even though I was next to the elevator I didn't hear anything.

2 nights were great!

Posted Sep 1, 2014
Pros: The shower was the best of all in our 3-week visit!
Cons: Breakfast in the lobby or restaurant? We walked down Katlian Ave. to a good restaurant for 2 meals but it would be nice to have something closer.
Location: We loved walking around town. Service at St. Michael's. The Sitka National Historical Park trails and museum; Sitka Wildlife Quest tour was great.
Three cousins shared a 2-bed room for 2 nights, on the 4th floor. We were very comfortable and especially liked the water pressure in the shower (all other accommodations for our 2-week stay had poor water pressure). We were close to town, found a good restaurant nearby (the Fly-In Fish Inn) for 2 meals, and had free shuttle to the ferry and airport. The advertised complimentary breakfast didn't happen, as the hotel restaurant was closed. We were able to stow our luggage in a locked closet before and after check-in and check-out. We walked everywhere from our hotel. The beds were very comfortable. Instead of the usual small take-away toiletries we had squirt bottles of soap, shampoo and something else in the shower. We did have to ask for extra towels for the 3rd person in our group. The staff was friendly and helpful but not always as knowledgeable as we'd like. We loved Sitka and would return to this hotel.

central location

Posted Aug 11, 2014
Pros: The location is perfect-off the main road but accessible to the sights I wanted to see.
Cons: Breakfast was not available; they sent me to another hotel which had a menu about twice the price.
Location: The Russian blockhouse (not original); the castle hill site of the transfer from Russia to the US; the Russian Orthodox Church; and shopping area are
The staff were efficient for everything after check-in. They did have trouble finding my reservation but once located, all went well. The room overlooked the harbor which was very nice for photography. The shuttle in from the ferry terminal was efficient.

Fair hotel, check other options first!

Pros: Not much. Bed was clean and room was quiet. Front desk staff was nice and very helpful.
Cons: To much to list. Restaurant needs the most improvement, eat at your own risk you were warned.
Location: Nice location downtown.
Room- it was clean and kept. Toilet seat did not fit the toilet bowl (oval seat on a round bowl). Had to have room key card programmed at least once sometimes twice a day on 4 a day stay. Restaurant- look for someplace else to eat! McDonalds serves better food. Food was the worst I have eaten in that town. Drinks were nothing more than colored water, sent them back and was still charged for the colored water. Wait staff never came and asked how food was or if we needed anything else.
