Way Overpriced hotel at good location

Posted Aug 27, 2013
Pros: Only location
Cons: Everything. Renovate old rooms. Upgrade food. That or charge 60 % less.
Location: Overlooking the great koukounaries bay and many other nice beaches like maratha, ambelakia and banana beach.
The hotel claims 5 star status despite only being partly renovated. The old rooms, that make up most of the capacity, are of 2 - 3 star quality with uncomfortable beds. Meals are also of poor quality. Avoid.

Great hotel...shame about the room

Posted Jul 11, 2013
Pros: View,quiet,private,clean and location
Cons: The room ,the beds, the general feel of the let down of what you paid for
Location: Fantastic we had already been to Skiathos some years back and were very impressed from the outside
The hotel is situation in a superb area of Skiathos it has breathtaking views of the sea. I stayed in a classic twin sea view room with bed and breakfast .The breakfast was on the roof along side the pool , the food selection was amazing I am vegetarian but had a good variety available. The chairs around the pool all had towels ready for use and after returning from breakfast everyday the beds were made and the bathroom cleaned I cannot in any way fault the cleaning of the rooms and hotel at all times cleaners and staff were available The reason I will not go back....I paid a five star price for a room that was so bad we almost left. The room was down a long dark passage it was so dated the bed was chipped the skirting board was hangling off and on the balcony someone had sprayed graffiti which they had sprayed over leaving a mess the bedroom cabinet had a radio nobs but no radio. There was a fridge in the room on top a tray with two gasses .Sellotaped in old brown faded tape a price list for inside 4 cartons of squash and some tinned drinks the fridge had seen better days Internet I enquired at the desk that was 5euro for an hour .....everywhere and I mean the bar at the end of the road all places it was free even the supermarket had it.This was the first 5star hotel I have stayed in was told to pay The room was poss three star I returned from the beach on my second night to witness the people next door asking for another room they had arrived and were not unpacking

Skiathos Palace Hotel

Posted Aug 9, 2011 on Hotels.com
Beautiful hotel lobby and pool/restaurant area with a great view. Uncomfortable mattress that took away from all the positives the hotel has. I've unfortunately had better sleeping conditions in some of the hostels I've stayed in. Time to donate the mattresses to a shelter and replace them with some that better fit the hotels classy appearance.

Wonderful, Old-style Family-owned Hotel

Posted Jul 30, 2009 on Hotels.com
We enjoyed ourselves immensely at the Skiathos Palace, and we are definitely going back. There are a few things to know about this hotel so that you are as happy as we were. (The wrong expectations could ruin it for you, as 4-star ratings in Europe are different than in the U.S.) First, if money isn't an issue, book one of the fully renovated rooms on the upper floors. Some of the older rooms have been updated only...still comfortable, but could be off-putting to the uninitiated (This is a very large but, as we learned, family-owned hotel, so a full renovation will take time). And, if at all possible, book a sea view. Second, just know that this is 1970's architecture through and through (reminiscent of some of the old hotels in Hawaii)...it must have been considered very upscale in its day, and continues to be well-cared for. An important note for some is that despite its several floors, there is no elevator in the hotel due to the period it was built. The staff is wonderful...upbeat and friendly. We especially enjoyed the waitstaff. The food in the upstairs open air restaurant is very good ... the fish grilled to perfection (truly...this part of Greece has grillmen who specialize in just that, and they have "the" guy.) Breakfast is quite a buffet, with a great opportunity to try some local specialties, like the "spoon sweets" made from local fruits. The hotel's best attribute, however, is its proximity to the beach...positioned on a hill across the road from the best beach on the island you can get to without a boat. This may seem inconvenient - it's not (plus there's a shuttle to the beach if you need it); this affords views of one of the most beautiful beaches with crystal clear waters you will ever know, spectacular sunsets, and the beautiful greenery in the distance. The outdoor pool area with pool bar/cafe are stunning, and enjoy all of the views I just described. It's also very convenient to take the bus, which runs just about every half-hour, straight into town from just across the street. We left with such a nice feeling...this was probably the most relaxing vacations we've had in years, however, I know that also had something to do with being there in June, before the crowds descended!

amazing view, mouldy walls

Posted Jun 9, 2009
when we arrived the staff were friendly but it was plain to see this hotel is old and in desparate need of complete renovation, a warning it is nothing like the expedia description. The main problem is the rooms as they have not been updated since the early 80's, As we were holidaying for the first time with our 9 month old daughter the one thing that was essential was air conditioning which never worked during our stay we inform the staff daily that it did not work and daily and very politely they would check and promise to fix it unfortuately for us especially the baby it wasn'tv fixed. But the buffet was first class and the were very friendly and helpful, the view and pool are great.
