The property has a nice vibe to it. Glastonbury is a very spiritual place. And Camelot Retreat was a nice reflection of the community.

B&B is in a residential area outside the center but close to the Tor. Whilst bedding and towels were freshly laundered, the overall state of the property was outdated, dusty, with cobwebs in the rooms and dirt in corners plus the garden was in a right state. Nothing like the pictures and didn't feel peaceful or a place of rest. Breakfast options very limited, go to Heaphy's or Timos in town instead. Overall the owner seemed very disinterested and apathic. A lot of notes scattered around the property informed you of the strict rules (mainly around food and drink, how to behave and what is expected of you, for example being very, very, very quiet). Can only reiterate what somebody said before, didn't feel like a holiday, felt unwelcome and uncomfortable. Couldn't wait to leave the next day.

hi lysann this is valerye the owner of camelot. i find your review so hostile i am at quite a loss how to answer it. we are a spiritual retreat centre which you would have seen before you booked but obviously you were not in resonance with the healing vibes most people find here. i think you may be suffering from depression as you were very hostile on arrival, maybe because you were expecting a 5 star hotel for the minimum proce you paid. everyone has different ideas about decor and camelot has its own unique ambience which most people IF they are on a spiritual journey resonate with. you are obviously not one of those and i suggest you chose us as we were the cheapest for your one night stay. i dont understand your comment the garden was in a right state as i have receintly spent over 1000 to bring it up to scratch obviously in january it is not going to be the same as the pictures which were taken in the summer months. our breakfast is a FREE one and most guests are only too happy to have it thrown in with the price. notes are scattered around as you put it as some guests do self check in if they arrive either before or after normal check in time. you say there were cobwebs in the rooms and dirt in the corners!!! did you spend your entire brief stay checking out every room to find a cobweb? if so i really pity you and you should not have been checking out other guests rooms but it sounds like you did as you talk about rooms not your room. i am very sorry if we missed a cobweb there but surely if it was that upsetting you could have taken your concerns to jayashree who went out of her way to make you feel at home and comfortable despite your own pathos. our rules are sent to you before you arrive and we ask for quiet times between 10.00-8.00 which most people are very grateful for. if you felt unwelcome and uncomfortable that can only be your own perception. most of our guests come from booking.com and we rate 8.5 out of 350 reviews which is a very high score. people who score us low dont really understand what camelot is. a unique retreat centre where everybody is made to feel welcome and to feel at home in peaceful surroundings with unique views of the tor and access to the kitchen to use at any time and a wonderful meditation room full of crystals from around the world that you did not avail yourself of.. i really feel very sorry for you as you must be a very unhappy person to find so much perceived fault in an under 18 hour stay. i wish you love and light on your journey as i feel you must surely need it.

This was a lovely place to stay for the one night that I needed it. The room was nice and warm which I appreciated as the weather was wet, cool & windy while I was there. Bed was also very comfortable and I felt content to be in my room for the evening. It was a nice bonus to have access to the meditation room and a small library of wonderful books. Good selection of breakfast items too. Easily walkable to everything I wanted to see in Glastonbury.

This Buddist retreat was ok for a place to sleep. Evelen was there and greated upon arrival. House rules are stringent with no meat for cooking. Didn't see anyone but Evelen while there. No place out of the weather to store the bike, which was stored out in the back garden. Breakfast simple and serve yourself. I'm not a buddist but took note of Evelen saying I had to much baggage by leaving a large towel behind. Ha ha. I'd rate this place OK for a quite stay.

More a Monastery than a B&B
There was no mention in the description that this was a vegetarian only establishment. NO meat, fish or alcohol was allowed (even in the room) and there were restrictive quiet hours. “Breakfast included” actually meant cold cereal, toast (one morning there wasn’t any bread provided) and eggs- all self service and self cleanup. Rooms were clean and comfortable but it certainly didn’t feel like a holiday.

I arrived late and was welcomed. I liked the flexibility of having breakfast at your own time. My only concern is that the walls are thin and you can hear every sound from downstairs and in adjoining rooms and bathroom.

Worst B&B yet
Owners are well meaning and nice people. but have no idea how to run the place. Miserable damp towels, had to make our own breakfast with minimal stuff found in fridge, then wash up. Bed occupied almost whole room. Bathroom shared with many. Cramped, uncomfortable. No privacy. Owners are new age Mystics and very pleasant but need to visit other B&B places to learn how to make people comfortable. Most guests in Glastonbury for spiritual awakening, perhaps no interested in material things.
Response from valerye on Oct 23, 2023
we are listed as camelot retreat which name denotes we are catering for the spiritually awakened! obviously this is not you so it would be better for everyone to choose a hotel and not the cheapest b@b! we have two bathrooms and only 4 bedrooms so i find all of your comments highly unrealistic and far from the truth as you will see from other reviews which gave us top marks.

The owner is a kind woman. The interior of the house is nice. From my room's window, I saw a Glastonbury Tor. If you use Castle Carry train station, probably you can receive a pick up service from the station to Glastonbury by paying additional fee.

worst accommodation experience this year!
Probably worst experience I have ever had at a place of accommodation. They would not accommodate my late arrival due to traffic caused by road works on the M4 when I informed them that it would take longer than originally planned. I was told, very bluntly, that if I arrive after midnight they would lock the door and lose my money. Had to sleep in a carpark for the night as no hotels in my price range were available in the area. Why does someone have to keep my money for not giving anything in return? It was late in the day and tI doubt she had other guests coming if she didn't want to allow us in.

A Bed and Breakfast setting..
Camelot Retreat is a good alternative to a hotel. I do not think B&B's can be rated using the same expectations as a hotel. The owner works very hard to insure all her guests are comfortable and have enough of anything..from breakfast to umbrellas. The home and rooms are clean..the setting is quiet and convenient and occassionally you may have to wait your turn for the bathroom. Valerye wants to provide a quiet... even meditative setting. That is clear in the description and since it was as described...we found it very pleasant and hospitable. Doubt a hotel managerwould have popped our rain soaked jackets in the dryer.

Peaceful Spiritual Retreat
Stayed one night at this delightful B&B. Valerye was a thoughtful hostess! We arrived by taxi from Bristol Airport. Valerye can help find the best fares! We were able to leave our luggage at the B&B ahead of our checkin time, walk to the nearby town center, see the Glastonbury sights (with helpful hints from Valerye). Lovely room with a view of the Tor!

Expect the unexpected
It was my first visit to Glastonbury hence was rather apprehensive as to what to expect, I was pleasantly surprised. Regarding "Camelot Retreat" I must admit I didn't expect it to be in a residential estate so had difficulty in finding it even with the SATNav. It was comfortable, clean, usual breakfast lay out but with fresh fruits which I consider a plus point. There was even a room for meditation.

What's in a name??
What's the difference between a B&B and a retreat? This place was listed by Expedia as a B&B and we booked on that basis, but when I asked for tea and milk in the room I was told by the owner that it wasn't a B&B but a 'retreat' and we could use the kitchen downstairs, altho the owner did bring up some stuff. Also this was booked as a 'de luxe' room but there was no en suite, no washbasin in the room, a rather grubby in parts, shabby bathroom/toilet across the landing shared with 3 other bedrooms, some of which were double (another bathroom downstairs was no use to me in the night because I am disabled), no chairs, no bedside lights, wardrobes full of owner's clothes, only a rickety folded up spare bed on which to put the suitcase. The owner thought we were staying 2 nights when we'd only booked the one, she asked us for payment when we had already paid on booking and seemed unaware we had gone thro Expedia, she was keen to get us out because she 'wanted to take the washing out' even tho we were on time to leave before the deadline.
Response from Paul on Jul 4, 2015
Camelot Retreat by definition of its name suggests a place of safety and peace where people can withdraw from the world and reflect. It is a home which means that the entire house is available for use at all times including the kitchen for other meals. There are no chairs in the room but a meditation room and lounge are available at all times; chairs are available on request but most guests prefer to soak up the healing energy in the meditation room to relax or lie on their beds. One side of the very large wardrobe is for guests use and has no other items in it! There is no room for bedside lights as the wardrobe is built in around the bed but it has a switch at the side of the bed to turn out the light. There is also a ledge above the bed to place drinks and books. The chest of draws would have been an ideal place to put the suitcase and the fold up bed is only a few months old! The bathroom is being renovated in January 2015 as this is the only quiet period without guests, it is however perfectly clean and not at all shabby, there is also a downstairs bathroom which is perfectly adequate for the number of guests especially as they are never all used at the same time and when this guest was staying here there was only one other room occupied i seem to recollect. I am always very friendly and approachable. Camelot is not going to suit everyone but everyone leaves feeling better due to its healing energies!

Not a run of the mill b&b.
Do not stay here if you expect traditional b& b. We were asked to take shoes off on arrival. There was no where to sit in the bedroom, except on the bed and no bedside tables. We were talking in our room and asked to keep the noise down at 21.30! After 23.00 or if we were having a row then fair enough, bit that felt very unreasonable.
Response from Paul on Jul 4, 2015
As Camelot Retreat is a home, the kitchen is available at all times with a wide range of drinks and the meditation room and lounge are also available at all times. Chairs are available on request. You were requested to read my website on booking which clearly states all of the amenities available as does the Expedia information. As this is a home for spiritual like-minded people it would be common place to take off ones shoes on entering, likewise as guests come to meditate, excessive noise in the bedrooms is not permitted at any time. As you state Camelot Retreat is not a traditional bed and breakfast as clearly stated in all of the advertising information, it is a home where everyone is treated as family with love, friendliness, trust and respect.

We were so shocked at the host the minute we got out the car she became bossy and even aggresive And the site are wrongly advertising this as a hotel when its not its just a scruffy b&b
Response from Rashid on Aug 2, 2014
I telephoned you after the guests left to say that they had arrived drunk and the driver, a man, parked longside over two parking places. i had rung them prior to there arrival as i had had no response from my email requesting they read my website to make sure it was what they wanted. Andrea assured me it was not a problem, they just wanted a bed for the night. i told her it was a retreat house, vegetarian self service buffet breakfast, no smoking and no alchol on the premises. At no time was i stressed or aggressive. i was prepared to wait up until 11.00. 30 when they advised me they were leaving after working late and then got held up in traffic. I was in no way intimidating. I was very welcoming to andrea, the gentleman was still in the car. i was concerned they had already been drinking, hence the late arrival, and instructed andrea i did not allow alchol on the premises when i saw the bottle of wine; but she could leave it in the car which she seemed happy to do, the gentleman however became angry and said he didnt want to stay and would they get a refund. i said i was agreeable to that and to ring yourselves. I also rang you the following morning to report what had happened. You have to appreciate i am running a retreat house where guests come to meditated etc. and i cant upset other guests by allowing drinking on the premises, in fact most of my guests dont drink at all. it seems really strange that there would be such a long wait before the complaint was lodged! I have many good reviews and wonderful things are written in my guest book, this is a one off incident of Andrea not bothering to read or respond to my email requesting she reads my website, also many guest houses would not have even been willing to wait up after check in time. I rest my case, may justice prevail.I have no objection to a refund of the booking as i thought that had already been sorted as a result of my phone call to yourselves and Andrea claiming the fee back which i said i was agreeable to. Kind Regards

More than just a B&B
It is indeed a retreat, Valerie offers more than just a bed and breakfast. She offers a range of alternative therapies as well. Both my mother and I had a healing session that was fantastic. We loved the breakfast arrangement where you can get your own toast, eggs, fruit etc. - a relief from yet another English breakfast. Valerie also drove us in her own car to Glastonbury Tor, which was much appreciated after weeks of having to find our own way to everything. We only stayed one night but would have loved to have had a longer stay. Thanks Valerie.

Unfortunately it was very thin walls, you can hear other guests talking and walking but everyone tried to take concern. Would have loved a better lamp for reading in the room. You have to share bathroom with several other guests, but I guess that is one reason why the price is lower than in most places. Nice with the garden and that it is a bit away from traffic, still only about 15 min walk to Chalice Well and to the town centre.

Interessante, familiäre Unterkunft in schöner Lage
Umfangreiche Literatur vorhanden, alles in Englisch.
