Overnight stayPosted Aug 4, 2014
Pros: The food and service
Cons: Maybe the beds could have the board at the bottom of the beds removed and enable taller people more room.
Location: The location is out of the way, nothing to do within walking distance.
The Malt Shovel is off the beaten track, but the food and service was of a good standard, the room was clean, the only negative was the bed, which wasn't big enough for myself but overall we were satisfied with the accommodation, so would recommend for a short stay.

Amazing food, basic but clean roomPosted Jul 17, 2014
We stayed here for three nights in July. The food was amazing, welcome and general advice on the area good, the room was ok but a bit basic.

Although the room was cold on arrival, it soon warmed up once the heating was switched on. Lovely food both in the evening and at breakfast.

Enjoyable food - good portions.Posted Oct 31, 2013 on Hotels.com
I stayed overnight as i was on a course in the area. Good food, and value for money stay. I happened to be staying when there was some live music on, and that was a nice bonus. There was only one negative - more attention to detail to cleaning in the bathroom would be good, as the soap tray attached to the shower looked a bit grubby.

Fantastic servicePosted Oct 10, 2013 on Hotels.com
Management were very accommodating as we asked if they could do an early breakfast because we needed to leave before 8.30am on Sunday. We had a full English they could not have done more for us.

Great BreakfastPosted Sep 1, 2013 on Hotels.com
We were given the disabled room so the bathroom was a bit stark ( but as it should be I guess ) and a bit smelly, the extractor did not work, I did mention this to the management. We only had a snack in the evening and that was O K but I do not like eating off of wooden planks ! The breakfast was very good.

Great little hotel. A bit our of town but lovely, quiet and roomy. Had a lovely dinner in the pub and breakfast was yummy.

Great BreakfastPosted Jun 23, 2013 on Hotels.com
When I arrived, the staff were a little too busy in the pub to concentrate on me and just handed me a key and pointed me in the right direction, no more information was given to me! The rooms were a really good size, clean and tidy. The duvet and pillows on the bed were great the only thing that let it down here was all the springs/wires could be felt on the mattress so this made the bed uncomfortable. The breakfast in the morning was great I have to say it was one of the best breakfasts I have ever had whilst staying in a hotel. The gentleman/chef was also very welcoming and friendly. I would return here again but make sure I did not have this bed.

Nice country pub/restaurant with modern rooms .Posted Jun 18, 2013
Pros: Quiet setting and quality of breakfast food
Cons: Slightly 'surly' service for breakfast
Clean and modern bedroom, bathroom was basic but functional. We never had chance to sample the restaurant food as it was only a one night visit and we spent the evening at a friends birthday celebration, but the menu looked extensive and the restaurant was well presented. The only reason to mark the hotel down were for the rather basic bathroom and no proper tea facilities in the breakfast room, though the cooked breakfast was very nice.
