We checked in and went up to the room which was beautiful and the view was breathtaking. When I realized that we could not stay because of my boyfriends anxiety about heights, we asked the hotel for their help. The front desk staff was very helpful and sympathetic. Massimo the hotel manager contacted another hotel in the center of town and arranged for us to stay there and was even able to get us a great rate. I wish that I could have stayed and I would recommend this hotel highly as long as you don't have a problem with heights.

So so SorrentoPosted Oct 10, 2013
Pros: Excellent staff
Cons: Room insulation
Location: Wonderful view of the Naples Bay, but quite some way from the centre of town. The hotel provided (free) shuttle buses between the town centre & hotel.
Excellent staff and good dining. Our room (122) had a balcony door that leaked water when it rained, although the staff quickly mopped it up. The worst aspect of the room was its very poor sound insulation; when the bathroom was being used in the adjoining room, you could hear everything!

"You may have requested.....but......Posted Oct 6, 2013
Pros: Beautiful views as it's atop a cliff overlooking the scenery
Our room had a sea view (as did all of the rooms) but we didn't have a balcony as was requested and paid for. When I questioned the front desk about it, I was told "you may have requested balcony but....you may not get balcony". Upon trying to discuss it further to find out how we could get a room with a balcony, the language barrier suddenly became more pronounced as if they didn't understand. The hotel itself is very nice but it was very disappointing to not get what we felt we had paid for and to feel like they were not the least bit concerned about our unhappiness with the room.

Fabulous experiencePosted Apr 30, 2013 on Hotels.com
My husband and our two traveling companions LOVED our stay at your hotel. The rooms were clean. The view was outstanding. The staff was attentive. The food was delicious. The decorations were fun and interesting. I would not hesitate to stay at here again. The only thing that would make it better is to have a "gift shop" at the hotel. They could provide snacks, drinks, and personal care items.

Amazing hotel with a water view!Posted Sep 16, 2012
Pros: Large, modern, clean with fantastic infinity pool and water views
Cons: Not walking distance to the center of town, but the hotel offers a shuttle with drop off and pick up throughout the day
Location: Located on a hill-top slightly outside the center of town with a great view of the coast, Sorrento, and Mt. Vesuvius
We had a great time at this hotel! Fantastic view of the Amalfi Coast with infinity pool! Clean and large lobby with bar and fantastic restaurant. Our room had a gigantic balcony with the most amazing water view...and came with a complimentary bottle of champagne when we arrived because it was our honeymoon. The greatest asset to this hotel is Massimo at the front desk who went above and beyond to help us (and other guests) with whatever we needed. The staff is really great at booking boat tours, transfers, cooking classes, finding bus and train times...basically whatever you need to make your trip enjoyable. I will definitely return there at our next trip to Sorrento!!!

Art Hotel Gran Paradiso - Not worth the moneyPosted Oct 10, 2010 on Hotels.com
The hotel should only be rated as a 3 star. The downstairs lobby, seating area and restaurant are all pleasant. However, the terrace, pool and corridors are all shabby and in need of refurbishment with paint flaking off external walls. The most disappointing and unacceptable part of our experience were the rooms. We were so disappointed we asked to change and after viewing a number of rooms on different floors it was apparent that the hotel didn’t have any rooms available, as described, on the website. The rooms are drab, small and haven’t been decorated since the 1950’s. I have never been so disappointed with a hotel and would urge people to stay away. The only saving grace is the view over the bay of Naples, but please don’t stay here if you are expecting a 4 star hotel.

gran paradiso - sorrentoPosted Jul 14, 2010 on Hotels.com
the most amazing views in sorrento, breathtaking. up a long steep road possible to walk if very fit. free shuttle available from hotel but not running regularly (ie hourly/half hourly) times not at all convienient especially if you have small children with you. regular in morning until 1pm then none til 3.45. none between 6 and 9 and 11pm. presumably to encourage you to eat at hotel, which is great but not every night. If you miss the shuttle a taxi will cost between 12 and 20 euros for a very short trip up. they know you have no option other than wait 2 hours for your shuttle! rooms are adequate, we paid for a triple but were put in a twin with a camp bed, very small room and balcony but the view was incredible. bathroom needs an overhaul. shower enclosure falling off its rails, the water pressure in shower non existent. swimming pool excellent especially for small child on verge of swimming alone. could sit right by shallows and keep an eye on them all day. overall most enjoyable trip.

Trapped in a TimewarpPosted Oct 28, 2009
Its a 5star view, but a 2star hotel. The rooms are very dated and in desperate need of an upgrade. We had a triple room and the third bed looked (and felt) like it was from the 60's. Its is not within walking distance to town and the hotel bus only runs a few times a day. Its about 20euro to go by taxi(one way) somenights they dont run it at all. Unfortunatey we learned this the hard way. Overall, we felt like we were stuck at some retirement village. Note also there is no fridge in the rooms.

modern entrance and poo but rooms are tired!Posted Sep 14, 2009 on Hotels.com
we went to sorrento for my friends wedding, when we eventually got up the very steep and winding narrow road to the hotel,we were greeted by a imaculate reception and pool area but very very shocked and suprised at how tradional and old fashioned the rooms were in contrast to the modern reception and pool area,.the rooms are also very small, dark and cramped luckily we didnt spend alot of time in the rooms. the steep incline to the hotel you can forgive as the view from the pool is amazing.the staff are very friendly.if you are booking this hotel i would also request a sea view as the rooms at the back of the hotel dont even have a balcony and look out onto a tin roof.we luckily booked a sea view which was on the side of the hotel and the ones on the front of the hotel have the best view, overall this hotel was nice but definatly not a 4 star hotel.i would say it was more a 3 star.t
