“Great place to stay”

Pool was great -- take advantage of the 4th floor open air deck. Breakfast-- fabulous, especially for our teen-age son. Housekeeping staff outstanding. Front desk staff very knowledgeable, but all that friendly.

“Loved this hotel”

This is a great property. The staff was friendly and moved us to a room with a view. The walk to Sorrento downtown was about 15 minutes but we liked not being in the noisy district. The hotel was a close to a US hotel in service, amenities and guestroom size that you could ask for. We loved the pool and after doing a tour was the perfect spot to unwind. The staff helped us book tours and all spoke English. The bar was staffed all day and you could have lunch at the terrace near the pool. I would definitely stay here again.

“Clean, Reasonably Priced, and Really Nice Pool”

This was a very nice hotel, reasonably priced, with a great pool. We went June 14 to 28th and it was very hot in Italy, and the pool was a great place to relax, especially after visiting Pompeii. If you come by train, get off at the stop just before Sorrento which is St. Agnello, and then it is about a ten minute walk. There's beautiful view of Vesuvius from the sun deck on the top floor. The breakfast buffet which is included in the price of the room, was in a very nice, large dining room. It included a nice assortment of rolls, fruit, juice, toast, but also eggs. It was by far the nicest breakfast we had out of the three hotels we stayed at in Italy. We had lunch at the outdoor café area, which was decent. For dinner, we went to nearby Sorrento. We walked and saw some very pretty views. It took about 20-30 minutes, but there is also a bus you can take. Sorrento has a lot of restaurants and a very busy night life. We couldn't believe how many people were walking around at night. Our room was not large, but certainly adequate. We had a double. If you are staying in a single, it might be much smaller. We overhead a woman complaining vigorously to the manager about the size of her room and the small bed. Anyway, we were very pleased with this hotel and we would go back.

“Very nice Sorrento hotel”

My wife and I were very pleased with this hotel for our 2 night stay in Sorrento. The location is a long walk (20 minutes) from the Sorrento center, but the hotel offers a limited shuttle service. Breakfast was the best we had in Italy hotels which included scrambled eggs, bacon and a variety of breads, cereals, fruit, etc. Would consider this hotel again, but may opt for a similarily priced hotel near the city center.

“Very nice hotel”

My husband and I stayed at Hotel Caravel for 3 nights in June 2007. I would very much recommend this hotel to anyone. Our room was good size and impeccably clean. The front desk people could not have been any nicer. Breakfast served was typical. The nice thing is that you could ask them to bring you a capuccino. The hotel also serves a pre-fixed dinner for 23 euro. It's convenient if you don't feel like leaving the hotel, but it's definitely not a great meal. We also liked the location of the hotel. It's about a 20 minute walk to downtown Sorrento, but there is also a city bus that runs that route, and the hotel runs a shuttle a few times a day, although the times weren't terribly convenient.

“Excellent Hotel Catering to Americans”

Looking at the area upfront in Google maps, I didn't really believe this could be a 4-star hotel, but it was in every respect. The rooms are smallish but tastefully furnished and decorated. We had a partial view of the Bay of Naples from our balcony, and the full view of the bay - with the Vesuvius across - was available from the sundeck on the roof. We also enjoyed the live music in the lobby every other night and the World Cup on the big screen downstairs. Lunch lacked diversity but was a tasty, all-you-can-eat buffet, served by waiters in formal attire in an upscale dining room. The hotel is within 20 minute walk from Sorrento (walking on Via Cocumella is much nicer than on Corso Italia). The beach is within 3 minutes, but we didn't like it and ended up going by bus to a neighboring town. Although admission to most beaches costs 5-10euros - and more for a chair/umbrella - every beach has a free area on the side which we found quite adequate. Before the trip, we planned on using the nice hotel pool, but in reality never did even once. St.Angello is a pleasant quiet town with good public transportation, nice seaside views, some bars, but virtually no other activities. If you don't want to waste time for a 20min walk, or money for the bus/taxi ride, perhaps you should look at hotels in Sorrento. But if you mostly plan to visit the big-name area attractions - Naples, Pompeii, Capri, Amalfi, Positano, Ravello - St.Angello is as good as any other town. BTW, Capri is a must!

“Great hotel in Sorrento”

Very nice hotel on the outskirts of town. A bit of a walk (15 min) from downtown, but a limited shuttle is provided by the hotel. Very nice buffet breakfast and a friendly, english speaking staff. Would highly recommend this hotel if you don't mind the walk to the center.

“Some good, some bad, mostly good.”

The staff at Hotel Caravel were excellent, attentive, and friendly. We especially liked our bartender Guiseppe, who worked very hard and was always busy, but not too busy to remember us or have a kind word. The rooms are small, American travelers may feel a little cramped, but they were on par with other hotels we stayed in while in Italy. But the little balcony was a nice touch. No view to speak of from the window, but since it was very hot, we kept the drapes closed during the day anyway. A/C worked great, another bonus in Italy, where they don't always have it. The shower was not well designed and a little cramped. The pool is smallish, but serviceable. The food was good, I recommend doing the bed and breakfast package, but for lunch and dinner, you'll want to get out to Sant Agnello or Sorrento because there are so many good places to eat. Two big negatives though, first, it's a long walk to Sorrento (a good 25 minutes) which wasn't going to be manageable f you wanted to dress nice for dinner. Second, the shuttle bus run by the hotel is not convenient at all. You can't go in the morning unless you get up very early, and the shuttle stops running too early at night, so you can't rely on it to get you home from dinner.
