Nice smaller hotel with a very friendly staff and

Posted Apr 15, 2015
Pros: The staff is great. The food is very good and on special nights when they have a party it is even better. Rooms are very nice.
Cons: Not sure it needs changes.
Location: Not too far from the airport. Have everything available to guests to do just like all the resorts. Shopping across the street.
Overall it was great. This is our third time to stay here and we more than likely go back again. Only had one problem with room, paid for ocean view and our first room did not qualify as ocean view for me. Next day did get a room change but it took a lot of work on my part to get it.

The room smelled musty, but overall nice grounds and friendly staff. Be prepared upon entering to be approached by their tIme share people, but they dont call it that, lol

Occidental or Accidental

Posted Apr 1, 2015
We were immediately grabbed to go on a tour to join the time share. The hallways are so close we felt trapped and the entryway to our room was uncomfortably tight. I am a petite 5 ft 2 in woman and felt huge in the cramped space. We had no outdoor space to our room and a minuscule view. Our coffee pot was faulty and we had to beg for coffee and minibar refills. We did anything to stay out of our room. We won't go back and will tell others to go elsewhere.

Repeat guest, very disappointed

Posted Mar 30, 2015
Pros: The majority of the staff is phenomenal. The food is good.
Cons: The rooms need ceiling fans. There are not enough umbrellas for shade around either pool. Enforce the towel exchange policy.
Location: Puerto Vallarta is a easy local bus trip away. The enclosed mall across from the hotel is nice, and in most cases reasonably priced.
Original room assignment was unacceptable. We paid extra for deluxe ocean view, but got a room overlooking the roof tops of the bar, Mexican restaurant, one end of the pool, the walkway, and a slight view of the ocean. We did get a better room assigned to us, after dealing with three individuals at the front desk. Thanks to Hugo, everything was worked out. The top three floors, and all of the corner rooms are assigned to Vacation Club members, and First Club members. The hotel has gone over board catering to these people. I think my dollar is equal to their dollar, however, it did not appear that way. The beach bar, which was once a terrific gathering place, has been moved and is now the pool bar. The ambiance is gone. When that bar was by the beach, it was nearly impossible to find a seat, all day into the evening hours. Now, the bar is nearly empty at all times, except for individuals getting a drink and going back to their loungers, etc.

This hotel was ok

Posted Mar 24, 2015
The hotel is really close to the beach and the staff were great. However, though both the interior and exterior of this hotel was clean, the design of it is not amazing, just ok. We really like the oversized king bed which was also very comfortable. We also loved their evening entertainment and the Italian restaurant was super!! But, I do think there are better places for the money paid for this hotel.

Hotel was ok.

Hotel was undergoing remodeling. The staff and the activity crew and bartenders were great! People were very friendly. I enjoyed the food, especially the shrimp tacos! The sales people though...watch out.

Staff pleasant but more interested in sales

Posted Mar 11, 2015
Pros: Beach and pool area. The larger hotel parties (ie: the White party & the Mexican Fiesta) were great for meeting other guests and entertainment.
Cons: Food - quality, diversity. Don't push the Club membership sales so much!!! Respect that guests have already paid enough to enjoy a vacation away.
Location: Restaurants near the marina were a great option to eat something delicious.
Overall I was pleased with the hotel itself -- rooms were nice and clean and modern, beds comfortable, and everything worked as it should. Of note, a "deluxe ocean view" may not be worth the upgrade that you pay for as ours was a sneak peak through the trees and past the pool, so I am guessing it was pretty much the same as almost every other room. The pool areas were great; the adult pool was definitely much more peaceful than the "activity" pool. The beach was gorgeous and was where I spent most of my time in the sun. You can literally walk for hours and hours along the beach and it is clean and what postcards of nuevo vallarta are made of. My biggest issue with this hotel was that most of the reception and concierge staff were more focussed on selling memberships to the "occidental club" than actually helping you enjoy your trip. I spent over an hour just trying to say no to one person's constant push for me to attend a "club" presentation. Of course they hook you first to tell you how you are entitled to all these deals and freebees, and then after wasting your time for half an hour they tell you it's ONLY if you attend a presentation. Given that I was here on just a short trip (5 days), I was very irritated. They almost force you to have to be rude and walk away from them mid-sentence. The bellhop staff were the most helpful by far. I was disappointed with the food -- not much diversity, quality was poor, and everything was super salty.
