In desperate need of refurbishmentPosted Aug 6, 2014
Desperately needs renovation. Bed extremelly unconfortable and poor service at the restaurant (1h wait for two burgers, the waiter apologised and our drinks were free).

Lovely short breakPosted Aug 1, 2014
Pros: Friendly staff, check in time was flexible (we called ahead that we were running late and it was no problem), room was good value for money
Cons: Extras were a little on the pricey side, we didn't have breakfast there or use the wifi. Things are generally a little in need of a freshen up
Location: It's within easy access of East Croydon station (with regular trains to London Victoria), taxi back late at night was about £17.
We had a lovely stay in this hotel, the staff were really friendly and made the experience what it was. It's within really easy access to East Croydon station and we used the free shuttle service which was great (although designed for business users so be aware it only runs first thing in the morning and early evening). We dined in the restaurant which was lovely. The spa was a little run down but was still relaxing and worth a visit. It is a shame there isn't a separate kids pool though!

GrubbyPosted May 22, 2014
Well........Grubby, down at heel, peeling wallpaper, damp spots, poor lighting, furniture from the 70's and it looks like the same carpet from the period..But not in a good way..Staff pleasant, I would say overworked underpaid and trying to botch things up. Decent breakfast though. Oh and they don't even have a real luggage trolley...

Noisy retreatPosted May 19, 2014
Pros: Shower in the bedroom was decent. Nice grounds.
Cons: Fix noisy doors. Inform guests about potential noise from wedding parties. Provide free Wifi/internet access. Provide modern TVs. Improve Spa hygiene.
Location: Have a curry in Selsdon - better than the hotel food and much cheaper.
Booming wedding party / disco not in harmony with what would otherwise be a tranquil setting. Thin bedroom walls meant could hear conversation in adjoining room (and these wedding guests were up very late). Doors slammed endlessly in corridors - could be fixed simply by maintaining the door closer mechanisms. Mattress was extremely uncomfortable - was evident previous guests had had the same problem owing to discovery of folded up pillows under the mattress to try to provide some semblance of support. The TV was an absolute joke. I thought analog signal had been switched off!? Just the 5 old stations and even then the TV kept switching itself off. We complained - hotel sent someone after 20 mins who said the signal must have been lost for a while. This is 2014. And they charge guests extra for Wifi/broadband access? Hotel needs to get with it. The hotel as a whole is in need of updating. The porch is ugly and completely at odds with the rest of the building. The shower in the Spa was poor by Spa standards (the one in the room was far better). Most guests seemed oblivious to signs asking them to shower before using the pool and not to wear shoes poolside - no staff member in the pool area - one chap popped in occasionally and seemed to be doubling as the cleaner. Not good enough.

We chose this hotel to relax following a break to London; it was easy to access using public transport. The staff are polite and friendly, it was clean, the bed was comfortable although a bit too soft for me and the room was a good size. The ensuite was fine. We enjoyed the pool and spa facilities although the spiral staircase leading up to the sauna and steam room might be challenging for some. We were booked on a room only basis so can't comment on the breakfast; however, we considered a bar meal for the evening but thought the area was cramped and the menu limited, so we walked into the village (only about 10 mins) instead. The prices seemed reasonable for this type of establishment. Only two small gripes; the was no information about the hotel and its facilities in the room and, while we didn't want to spend all our time in front of the TV, we had an old, CRT set with only a few channels. We don't think an up-to-date Freeview set is too much to expect. However, we'd stay there again.

Palatial grand exterior. Has a historic grand feel to it, excellent service...... BUT Room was freezing, dated heating system, room didn't warm up during my six hour stay. Small CRT TV with only terrestrial channels, even the budget chains have LCD with freeview. Shower was good just done expect any modern amenities.
