Nice hotel, great beach access
Posted Jan 10, 2013
Pros: The close beach access, the clean rooms, the friendly staff
Cons: Possibly fixing the broken stone work in the pool (the lion heads), additional parking
Location: The beach was very clean and not very crowded (we went in June), the strip had plenty of shops and restaurants, most of which were great!
My husband and I took our 3 little ones here for the weekend and we were very pleased with our experience. The hotel may look small compared to the surrounding hotels but we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of it. The lobby looked recently updated, the rooms were spacious enough and were very clean. The pool was great, a few of the stone details were broken and needed repairing but it didn't hinder our experience at all. The beach view and access were fantastic. The breakfast was complimentary and wasn't super great but it was free so no complaints. The only negatives we found was that there were ants in our syrup jar the first morning, the beach towels always seemed to be low and parking was very minimal. Other than those minor details we had a great experience and would recommend La Copa to anyone!

Convenient location & Great place to stay
Posted Jan 10, 2013
Pros: Price & Location
Cons: Noise in adjoining rooms and hallway.
Location: Convenient
La Copa Inn Beach Hotel is in a great location in relation to restaurants and close to the beach. The lobby and rooms are decorated nicely and inviting. The little cafe and the breakfast area are plainly decorated, but clean. The cafe offers alcoholic and soft drinks as well as a variety of other food and is located by the pool area. The breakfast area is located on the forth floor and is a good size for a lot of people. Both days we went they had an omelet bar, waffles, muffins, scrambled eggs, cereal, refried beans, tortillas, toast, juices, and coffee. The pool and hot tub are in great condition and are large enough for quite a few people. The patio was nice with covered areas and lounging chairs. The mattress in the room was soft and comfortable, but it would have been nice to have more pillows. The primary downfall to the hotel in my opinion was that I could hear lots of noise in the hallway, the rooms next to us as well as the room above us. But overall my family of six would stay there again.

My romantic getaway

Pros: The access to the beach
Cons: The smell if the hotel
Location: The location was good
The hotel smelled,of smoke. And there was a musty odor and the walls were in need of paint. This is not a three star hotel

Honeymoon
Posted Jan 29, 2013
Pros: The room was well taken care of and the beach access was incredible! Score one for La Copa Inn on that!
Cons: Keeping the hotel updated is very important, don't wait until it's mandatory! The breakfast needs a major overhaul in every way.
Location: The beach access is awesome, and easily the best thing about the hotel.
First off, we got an excellent rate for our honeymoon vacation! However, we did not get the room that we paid for, which was disappointing. The breakfast was not warm, or even satisfactory. The renovations are kind of a hassle and very, very dirty. The Copa Cabana is not really worth going to; overpriced and frankly not good. We did appreciate how clean the room was when we arrived!

Once reno is finished it'll be great!
Posted Jan 26, 2013
Pros: Beach access was very easy.
Cons: Not knowing it was under renovation before arriving was offputting, but the staff did their best to make up for it.
Location: Very easy to get to when you arrive at South Padre Island. Walking distance to several restaurants and shops, easy driving to others.
The hotel is undergoing a cosmetic renovation of the lobby area, so things were a bit dusty and noisy down there, but the staff was all very helpful and friendly. The room was relaxing and that's what we wanted. The minifridge was handy to put drinks and leftovers in. The hot tub was also under renovation, so that was out. The pool area was okay, some of the lounge chairs were cracked, but overall, we were pleased with our two night stay. Some construction noise in the mornings made sleeping in difficult, but as soon as they finish that reno, the whole experience would be close to perfect. The omelet station in the complimentary breakfast was very good.

Nice stayoverall, only 1 small issue
Posted Jan 24, 2013
Pros: Price and central location
Cons: Remove the carpet from the rooms, or have them cleaned extensively
Location: Near the beach obviously, near several tour and snorkeling locations, only $6 taxi ride to laguna bobs and 3 other bars.
Decent hotel for the money, fairly big room. I got the 2 bed no ocean view. Came with a fridge and microwave. Only issue I had was the room smelled kinda moldy/ pungent. I am pretty sure it was because of the carpet in the room. I happened to see other rooms being cleaned that had tiled floors. To be honest the rooms with tile even looked alot nicer than the ones with the carpet. I would suggest arranging to get a tiled floor room, because the carpet room I had had a slight funk to it. But overall I would definitely stay there again on the condition that I got a tiled floor room.

Stay
Posted Jan 18, 2013
Pros: Location
Cons: Friendlier lady serving drinks, make sure painting in bathroom is complete and carpet in rooms are not loose.
Stayed for 6 days before school let out. There was construction going on in the front lobby and it was a mess. Parking was not a pleasant experience. Had to park all the way almost to the street the whole time. It is an old hotel so you are going to find things wrong with it, of course. The rooms are nice, but the carpet is loose. Paint in the bathroom was not complete around the blow dryer and around the edge of bottom. The free breakfast is great! Please make sure you tip the ladies for their hard work. A lot of people do not do that. They give you a free drink per day card and the one day we used it, the lady was very rude to us, we decided it was not worth using it again. The other people in the hotel was very polite and always greeted us very nicely and with smiles. Overall, for the rate we paid, and the little time we spent in the room, it was worth it, but we will may look for something else next time.
