“Good breakfast”

Place was very clean, only complaint room would not cool down,and desk chair was broken,and as in most hotels water pressure not very good. Good breakfast did not run out of food or drink.

“Didn't expect anything more”

The howard johnson was our only reasonable choice after reading the reviews from some of the other places. The room was really large which was nice, pretty clean, had free wifi, free breakfast, and really cold A/C. It also included a balcony but the view wasn't all that great. Location wise the hotel is kind of in a bad spot, I wouldn't call it walking distance from the beach. It is only a 2 min drive from the beach though. It's also reasonably close to everything on the island, because the island is pretty small. Cons: - Sheets had some weird stains on them - breakfast ended somewhat early for us at 9:30 am - small pool - kind of far from the beach - price is a little inflated for what you get, but reasonable compared to everything else on the island

Area recommendations

Get a hotel on the gulf side of the island on the beach. The walk/drive is kind of a pain otherwise.

“Close to many activities”

Hotel was very close to beach access and the many cruises available at the island. From the hotel just walk behind it for a great view of the Friday fireworks during the summer weeks. Overall had a great experience with the service. Their continental breakfast consists of cereal, toast, bagels, apple juice, orange juice, coffee, and the make-your-own-waffles machine.

“Not impressed”

I was very disappointed with the room. The a/c was broken. They did eventually fix it. The location was great though.

“Fathers Day Vaca...”

Pleasant Stay, Comfortable Beds Clean Room...For Fathers Day Mini Vacation... with 2 adults 3 Small Children...It was great for price range

“FRUSTRATING STAY”

We arrived at the hotel between 4 and 5 pm and when I opened the door to my room, the first thing we smelled was cigarette smoke. Even though I reserved a non-smoking room and there was a sign on the wall that said it was a non- smoking room. Another problem we incountered was that we did not have hot water. I called to the front desk about the problem at about 11 pm and the clerk told me that he would mention it to the maintenence person in the morning. We waited for the someone to come fix the problem but no one showed up. I then called to the front desk and that's is when they asked me if I wanted to change rooms. We lost most of the morning changing to another room.

“not impressed”

The room wasn't cleaned right the air conditioner was making alot of noise there was not enough towels in the room.

“Almost perfect, but I can't wait to go back!!”

Staff was extremely friendly and overall great. Mary provided the best customer service. The room was nice and close to the beach. The room was clean, a big plus. The breakfast was nice because we had more than cereal and donuts to choose from. The ONLY downfall was the bed. This was the most uncomfortable bed we have ever slept on. The mattress was just a bunch of springs covered with cloth. If the hotel replaced the beds the ratings would be all 5s (extremely satisfied).

Area recommendations

A restaurant I would highly recommend would be Captain Roy's. The food was very reasonably priced and most important delicious and fresh. THE BEST CEVICHE ever!!! I would also recommend the Italian Ice Cream place next to the wave retail store.

Outdoors or beach

I've gone to South Padre for years. It is sad to see it becoming more polluted. Please pick up after yourself, so the beach can be enjoyable for years!!
