Dive Hotel Should Be Condemned

Posted Aug 23, 2014
Pros: The two staff members that we met when we checked in seemed to be very pleasant. Other than that, there was nothing I liked about this hotel.
Cons: The entire hotel should be remodeled and updated, from front to back. Also, there should be phones in every room, and more staff.
My husband and I were disgusted with this hotel in the middle of nowhere. When we arrived, no one was at the front desk, so we rang a bell, and two employees arrived, shortly after. Both were very pleasant, and one stated that she would be working in the hotel bar until 2:00 a.m. We were then handed an old fashioned key to our room. When we entered our room, it was like we had stepped into a time warp, into the 1960's or 1970's. The room was shabby and dated, and when I sat down on the foot of one of the double beds, it let out a loud squeak, and promptly sank down to within a few inches from the floor. The mattress (at least 20 years old) was stiff and hard, like cardboard, but the springs had died many years earlier. I wanted to call the front desk to complain, but there was NO phone in the room, only a phone jack, and because we were stuck in the middle of nowhere, my cell phone had no bars and was useless. The hotel did have Wi-Fi, BUT, the signal was weak and inoperative, so I was unable to contact Expedia to see how we could get our money back and leave this dive. We tried to make the best of a miserable situation, but finally, around 4 a.m., we could take it no longer, so we packed up and dropped our key off in a box on the front desk. Though we rang the bell for service, there was NO staff there, so we simply left. This hotel should be condemned! I would advise everyone not visit this hotel, unless they want to waste their money on a dive.

Had to change rooms 3 times

Not very good. Will never go back and expect a full refund. There was garbage in the rooms and pubic hair on the sheets after we took off the comforter

Appearances are deceiving!

The exterior and lobby are promising a good stay, but the rooms were not as well cared for. The sink stopper was broken and there was only 1 bath towel (used) and only 2 vials of shampoo (no soap bars). The pillows were uncomfortable and didn't appear to be fresh. The breakfast offerings were as advertised, but the dinner menu was lacking. However, the waitress was very pleasant and did serve us a complete meal, even though a lot of items were unavailable.

Bed was very hard and uncomfortable. Hair was in bed that had been made. TV was very small and difficult to view from bed.

Overall, a little nicer than the Comfort Inn in Havelock. Wifi didn't work unless you were near desk, tv's were old picture tube type, which would be fine, but they didn't work well enough to watch them. Parking was a little poor but worked. Nice lobby fireplace and bar area.

One of the worst hotels I ever stayed at. No staff available to get into my room and then couldn't find the key. I would certainly take this off of your recommendations. It needs completely reworked and better staffed.

Older hotel with some renovations

Posted Mar 25, 2014
Pros: Very clean, warm environment and easy access to room/parking. Very secluded area and a nice little bar & grill just a few doors down from the room.
Cons: Property is showing it's age. Beds were a bit hard, water temp was highly variable, temp control on heater did not work for one of our stays,
Location: I hear they have lots of golfing, but we go to horse events at Carolina Horse Park. Nice secluded location but not close to anything.
3rd time staying at this hotel for event at Carolina Horse Park. Stayed once last year and was impressed by the staff, restaurant & bar, and warmth of the experience. I'd have to say this year was not as impressive. No serious deficiencies, but lots of annoying ones. Staff was very polite and friendly but seemed a bit incompetent. Late night noise from the bar area on a weekend CAN be disruptive if you are a light sleeper. Price is competitive. Security doesn't seem to be a problem, but uses old fashion keys and side doors were never locked. TV size and furnishings are highly variable. WiFi worked but was a bit slow and inconsistent.
