Bait & Switch

Posted Jul 10, 2014
Our Expedia confirmation specified two queen beds and a room that accomodated four. We were given a 180 sq, ft. Room with one queen bed and one side chair. It was very inconvient & we were very disapointed.

Gone With The Wind

Posted Apr 21, 2014
Pros: The decor, the staff, the history--all were way above average.
Cons: It would be good to have more and better food. We had scrambled eggs, bacon, a biscuit, and a waffle. The biscuit was (or had been) frozen.
Location: Anyone visiting here will know. Linville Falls, the Blue Ridge Parkway and the mountains are the major reasons for visiting the area.
We had a very pleasant stay. The room was clean and comfortable. The staff very friendly and helpful. The food was good. The history of the hotel, which the proprietor was more than willing to share, was very interesting. We made plans to meet friends here later in the summer.

Beautiful View

Posted Apr 21, 2014
Pros: The best thing about this hotel was the stories behind it. The beautiful hand laid wooden paneling throughout the hotel is also beautiful.
Cons: The hotel is old, so a LOT could be improved, but doing so would lose a lot of the character of the place, & a lot of it's charm.
Location: The Blue Ridge parkway is always beautiful, year 'round, and the Mountain View Restaurant, right nearby, has great food.
This hotel is NOT up to the standards of your usual commercial hotel. If you're looking for a Hilton, this ain't it. The hotel itself is over 50 years old. That being said, the room was very clean, and the beds--while a little more firm than I usually like--were comfortable. Breakfast was good, and the staff was AMAZING. The owner of the hotel lives on site and took a personal interest in our comfort. If you go here, make sure you ask for one of the rooms on the third floor with a balcony. The view is absolutely spectacular. Also, make sure you find the owner and ask him about the history of the place. Some of the stories were incredible. The scoundrel that built the place way back when was one heck of a character. All things considered, I would recommend the place, and I'd go back without any hesitation, but the condition of the building is going to be a turn off for some people. As long as you go in with the expectation that this is an older building and it is not going to be of the quality of a new hotel, I think you'll be fine.

The story behind this place is fascinating...

Posted Mar 25, 2014
Pros: The rooms and linens were clean, the showers were hot, and the atmosphere was laid back and peaceful.
Cons: There are some upkeep issues but it didn't take away from our experience.
Location: Unfortunately parts of the parkway were still closed when we were there. We were able to go to the top of Mt. Mitchell, Morganton is an easy ride.
If you are looking for a top of the line luxury hotel the Skyline is not about that. But if you seek a cozy and clean place to rest between adventures in the beautiful NC mountains, you should definitely check it out. Mike is a great guy, very friendly and informative. He gave us a great history of the place, and after we looked online our first night there, we asked some more questions about what we had learned. He was happy to take the time to talk to us and show us the hidden history in the hotel. I will leave the details for you to learn from Mike if you decide to check it out. Going in the off season was a great idea, we had the whole place to ourselves except for two other guests. The seclusion and quiet was a much needed break for us. Mike's pumpkin waffles were awesome, and his doggies were very welcoming! I hope to return there sometime soon.

amazing views

Posted Oct 31, 2013
Pros: Great view of the mountains, nice staff, pleasant and comfortable rooms reminded me of staying in a spare bedroom at a friend's place, decor was homey
Cons: Some areas were a little dusty like behind the bed and on the ceiling fan, which made me a little sneezy. Bathroom and linens were very clean though.
Location: Blue Ridge Parkway literally seconds away from hotel driveway. Lots of hiking and scenic overlooks. Breakfast and dinner can be purchased at hotel.
Nice little motel with an amazing mountain view. Rooms were pleasant and homey. Friendly staff. Would definitely stay again.

Nice motel close to Parkway

Posted Oct 28, 2013
Pros: Enjoyed talking with the owners over breakfast. Good people. Location was good for what we wanted.
Cons: Rooms need refurbishing.
Location: Right on parkway - perfect for viewing scenery. Hiking trails nearby - Right between Boone and Ashville, NC
Said full breakfast - thought was complimentary. No amenities in room. Dim lighting. Small room.
