Great view of Sigiriya Rock, wildlife roam freelyPosted Aug 12, 2014
Pros: location, staff, hotel layout, amenities such as spa, organised safari tour, buffet was delicious.
Cons: updating of rooms, new bathroom suite, better drainage as shower plug was blocked, sturdier outside doors to rooms as could hear wildlife at night
Location: Minneriya national park safari, sigiriya rock, dambulla temple, spice gardens, batik/ silk clothing shops, wildlife watching.
Walking distance to Sigiriya Rock (1.5km), with a fantastic side-on view of the rock from the pool and bar/ lounge area. Food was varied and suitable for a European palate-- something rare in Sri Lanka. Always fresh, and as a vegetarian they had lots of salad and vegetable options. Hotel staff were pleasant and the men didn't make me feel uncomfortable-- also rare in Sri Lanka. The hotel sees a lot of non-paying guests such as macaques and monitor lizards. This made the whole experience feel like a jungle resort, as if we were truly in the wild! The room itself had character but needs a little updating. There were ants in the wardrobe so we didn't use it. The beds were a little hard, and can be noisy during nightfall due to the animals around the hotel. The shower drain was blocked and water wasn't hot, so had to have some compromising showers. Another downside was the lack of wi-fi in rooms- the lobby area was the only area in the hotel with signal and this would turn into an internet cafe every evening. Cocktails were expensive! The area is remote, with a small array of shops a 5 min walk away. I visited a lovely Batik shop with homemade items. Their son also offers a taxi service- I found this was half the price the hotel were quoting, and the driver was the most pleasant Sri Lankan I'd met; he took us on a tour of sights between Sigiriya and Kandy, was very well informed, spoke English fluently, and drove a brand new Prius-- less bumpy than tuktuks!

poor valuePosted Apr 21, 2014
Cons: Food quality especially the meat. All the hot dishes were served tepid or only warm. Lamb and beef was tough.
Location: Sigiriya rock
Food tepid and meat tough. Room basic and environs from main area to room poor. Main area nice. Would not recommend though as for not much more you can get better accommodation. no hot water.

Fantastic place in a beautiful areaPosted Apr 19, 2014 on Hotels.com
I stayed 3 nights at Hotel Sigiriya and had a fantastic time. The place is a perfect place for relaxation with a great pool and a fantastic spa area where you can get a nice massage or a great facial. The bar area is a nice place to hang out and the staff is extremely helpful and always happy to help you. Would also recommend the early morning bird watching, which was very interesting.

Great locationPosted Feb 25, 2014 on Hotels.com
The main tourist attraction in Sigiriya is the Lion Rock climb which is unmissable according to my wife and daughter. The hotel looks right at the rock in walking distance. I did infact miss it as my knee was playing up but I spent an excellent restful day around the pool next to the bar using their free wifi and reading in the shade. The buffet meals are a treat especially the curries. The had a full range of non-spicy food on offer but we came to Sri Lanka to enjoy their style of cooking and here it was very good.
