“Old yet new; friendliest people on earth”
We visited the Buccaneer after a trip 34 years ago. The restoration is very beautiful. The food choices, though limited, are adequate. Splitting entrees is worth it- the servings sizes are quite generous. If you stay in the Great House, be aware there are no elevators. The beaches are nice. It is a distance to town, but buses are available at the entrance, and taxi cabs abound. Christensted is pretty run down, reflecting the economic conditions. Traffic is now routed through the heart of the town, and they don't need "no stinking road signs." A bypass is being built, which will be wonderful. Drivers are speedy, but surprisingly courteous for the most part. Opa, a Greek restaurant is simplle, but good food. On the grounds, the Mermaid has great food.
“Great Place”
The Buccaneer is a great place to say. Very nice environment. Beautiful ocean view. All inclusive resort. EXCELLENT FRIENDLY and helpful staff.
“Best place to stay in St. Croix”
The staff was very friendly. Check in was easy and a gentleman named Neal helped us to our room. The room we were orignally placed in had ants. I went down to the front desk to inform the clerk about this and they quickly moved us with no problem. Mermaid beach is beautiful. The hotel provides plenty of outdoor equipment for the guest to enjoy themselves on the beach. The food at the bar on Mermaid beach is delicious. The golf course that surrounds the hotel is well kept. If you are looking to save money on food I would highly recommended eating dinner outside of the hotel. Kim's is a local place near the boardwalk and their food is delicious. Angry Nate's is another great place near the boardwalk that is fantastic! Overall, my husband and I had a great time and plan on going back.
“one of the best on St. Croix”
St. Croix never really recovered from the hurricanes in the 90's but it still has some appeal. Clear, blue water, great diving and snorkeling, relaxation, and a golf course right on the property. Don't expect the best food or late nights but if beach and relaxation is what you need, this is a good place to do it at. The staff is very friendly and helpful in any way they can!
“October is a good time to go. Don't skip it.”
The staff are very friendly and helpful. It has 2 nice and clean beaches. It has a dock that allows certain boat operators to pick up guests (e.g. Big Beard's). The food at any of its restaurants are prepared well. It is 5 minute by cab to Christiansted. Make sure you have the resort make the taxi arrangements for you to and back from town as their rate is discounted. The resort is very hilly. Good for those trying to burn off some calories after eating deserts but may be problematic for some. The resort, however, provides a courtesy van service that upon request will pick one up and drop them at any location in the resort.
“Best on the island”
The Buccaneer is the best overall resort on the island. It is conveinent to all the island activities and has a great resort feel.
“best hotel in saint croix”
Amazing hotel. Very clean and comfy. A bit expensive for food but then again most of the things in the island are. Really good service and tours
“Great Hotel in Great Setting... but”
You'll love the Buccaneer as a property. The commanding views of the ocean and the wonderful beaches are as good as any tropical island anywhere, and we've been all over the place. The staff was great too, especially our favorite hotel cab driver, Bachelor, who made sure we knew everything about the island and saw all the points of interest. The major negative for us was the bugs. They even warn you in their welcoming info sheet about the "no-see-ums"... tiny gnats that bite and leave welts like mosquiotos. The hotel even had a spray can of "Off" included in our room. Made no difference, they still ate us alive whenever we dared to sit outside in the morning or evening to enjoy our oceanfront patio. We found that "Repel" worked better. If they sprayed the entire grounds and eliminated the bugs completely, this would then be the ideal vacation spot for anyone seeking a welcoming, relaxing atmosphere in a tropical paradise.
“Great place to stay on St Croix”
Very nice hotel, second time I've stayed here. The first time was 32 yo. Great staff, excellent location, great massage. Rooms were nice bed was comfortable and spacious. Nice beaches, you can practically have one to yourself . Great place to recharge your batteries. Good concierge service, booked the Buck island full day snorkeling trip would highly recommend. Food was good though pricey. Breakfast came with the room and was very good. Food cheaper in town, but I rarely left the resort. Great place would love to go back soon. Overall a great place to stay.
“Great place to stay”
This was the second time we stayed at the Buccaneer. We love the place. There are two beaches - one has some underwater corals that you can snorkel around all day. This time the breakfast was served in the main building so we had to go up hill to get breakfast (we walked most days). One tip - there is no cash machine at the resort so if you need cash you'll have to find the St. Croix Bank in Christiansted. Since we had a car this was not a big problem, but we did get help from a local fireman in finding the place.
