Gower HousePosted Nov 4, 2014

Handy to DowntownPosted Oct 29, 2014
I recently stayed at the Gower House during a business trip and it worked out great. It had onsite or street parking and was only a couple of blocks from the downtown district. The room was small but was neat and clean.

close to downtownPosted Oct 18, 2014
Cons: Manners. Availability of staff.
Location: Downtown St. John's. Can walk to many places.
Could not get a cup for tea until there for four hours. Got yelled at when I called one of the numbers to ask for a cup(not Joseph). TV would not work. Didn't have anyone to ask for help. Saw no one. In the morning nobody was there to provide breakfast. Food was there but dishes were not.

More character than a hotelPosted Sep 30, 2014
Pros: The character of the building
Cons: For what it is, a moderately priced B&B, it doesn't need improvement
Location: Walk south to get to the more interesting parts of town
I tend to stay at commercial hotels when I'm on holiday, mainly because I often book on the fly, based on low prices. St. John's is more geared toward bed and breakfasts in the downtown area than many cities, according to people I talked to. So I wound up staying at Gower House, which was a pleasant change. Joseph, the college student who runs the place, was a cordial and helpful host. He puts out a nice breakfast! Gower House isn't luxe, but it was comfortable and had a homey feel. The location is good if you're on foot and want to ramble around St. John's. I'd choose this over a sterile, plastic corporate environment any day.

Bien situé dans Saint John's.Posted Sep 30, 2014
Pros: Sa Situation

Cons: More Bacon
Location: It is Central. Close to anything you want
Nice rooms, good Breakfast and good value. What is nice is that you pick up your key and help yourself. There is no fuss or bother. There are Real glasses in the rooms, modern TV's and very comfy beds. Everything is clean and fresh

Good value, excellent locationPosted Sep 27, 2014
Pros: Location is perfect for exploring St John's on foot.
Stayed 2 nights in Sept 2014. The B&B is located in a historic building within easy walking distance of everything in downtown St John's and there was free public parking in a small lot behind the B&B, although it was usually full. The building is old, so the rooms are small but well furnished and comfortable. A freshly cooked hot breakfast was served each morning. There is no onsite owner/manager, so expect to rely on other guests for recommendations. We arrived without a reservation and when we called the number at the front door, we were told they were full. We went to a nearby Tim Hortons to use the wifi, looked on Expedia for other options, and saw that a room was in fact available at the Gower. We booked the room, returned to the B&B and called again. Because there was no one onsite, we had to wait about 45 minutes to check in, but they gave us the code to get in the front door and let us wait in the sitting room until they arrived to check us in.

It's a B&B, not a hotelPosted Aug 18, 2014 on Hotels.com
When booking, it was not clear to me that this is a B&B. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but it wasn't what I was expecting. The room was clean and had all the necessary amenities. The place is central to downtown. I didn't have an opportunity to sample the breakfast portion of the "bed and breakfast" as it was only served between 8 and 9; too late given my schedule. They could really use a in-room coffee maker or a one-cup coffee maker in the common area.
