“Confusing Hotel in Unsafe Neighborhood”
This hotel is located inside a rundown mall where the majority of the shops are closed or closing. I was asked for money 7 times..there were no easy directions to get to the hotel lobby which was on the 2nd floor and i had to carry my luggage up a large flight of stairs. THe hotel is right across from a homeless park and I did not feel safe leaving my room.
“No Indoor Pool”
Stay was fine. Location has an outdoor pool that is covered but it was too cold to swim, I would've preferred a hotel with an indoor facility. I don't think it was worth what we spent, but the building was pretty.
“Met my needs”
The hotel itself is nice. Room was clean but small. Service was very good. The heated courtyard pool was a major plus. Union Station itself, I think, has suffered from the economic downturn, as what used to be a vibrant shopping center is now sparsely populated. Hard Rock Cafe and Landry's are options for a decent meal at least.
“Disappointed”
The hotel has very nice rooms, large and clean. We were disappointed in access to the hotel from Union Station. Our cards to access the gates wouldn't work part of the time and we had to climb to the third level to enter and access the lobby. There is no elevator from Union Station to the lobby.
“Great hotel”
Stayed here and went to a Cardinal game at Busch stadium. Convenient location.
“Wouldn't want to stay anywhere else!”
The hotel is very convenient to area attractions. We could walk to our destinations and felt very safe walking to the hotel late in the evening. The convenience of the food court in the mall connected to the hotel was perfect! We were able to get food from the food court and go to my room with ease. The look of the room was just gorgeous. The bed was very comfortable. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel was a perfect addition to our getaway weekend!
“Excellent location”
This hotel was in walking distance of a number of sites, plus only two train stations away from Busch Stadium.
“Fabuous ambience”
A great hotel in a wonderful old train station with adjacent shopping mall in the old train shed, all conveniently located to downtown St Loius attractions and the freeway system. Would recommend to anyone for business or pleasure.
“six flags/cardinals game trip”
I felt that we were looked down upon. I do not like that and will not frequent their establishment again. The price was way too high for the services offered. The walk back from the ball park that night was a nervous one, at best. Places to eat were very over-crowded and too expensive. I tried it once but will not repeat my mistake.
“Once grande dame of city needs serious renovation”
Back in the summer of 1991 when this mall and hotel were re-opened after renovations saved it from neglect and possible demolition, it was a jewel of the city. Oscar winner Adrien Brody and the whole cast of Steven Soderburgh's movie "King of the Hill" stayed in the hotel. A Banana Republic, a Limited Express and a B Dalton store all anchored it. Now this place is dingy, dirty, full of souvenir stores and a sad remnant of an urban renewal project that withered without the support of surrounding investment. The Grand Hall is still grand and definitely worth the experience as an architectural marvel. The rest of the hotel, though, and mall, and surrounding area, are desolate, lack food options other than fast and cheap or slow and expensive -- and not that tasty. Despite being well-served by Metrolink mass transit and sporting an outdoor pool, reasons we chose this location -- it is not worth the expense versus newer hotels in more vibrant areas like Central West End or University City. Staff was very attentive but our room was musty and smelled like bacon and cigarettes for all three days. Word to the wise -- despite multiple assertions that the Marriott does not allow coolers or drink -- there were coolers everywhere on bell hop carts, in the halls, etc. -- so if you want a stay on the cheap with your own eat and drink, you could do that.
