An absolutely lovely and relaxing oasis

Posted Jun 6, 2014 on Hotels.com
What a lovely stay we had at the Fond Doux Holiday Plantation. I just loved everything about it: the lovely secluded cottages, the gorgeous grounds with extensive walking trails, the delicious restaurant, the friendly and helpful staff, the fact that it's locally owned. We stayed two nights in late May. Our first night we were upgraded to the 2BR/2Bath Avocado cottage and lived like kings with not another cottage in sight, total privacy for relaxing and reading on our front porch. I was a little worried that when we moved to the cottage we booked, Cinnamon, for the 2nd night that we would feel downgraded, but in fact, we both commented that we liked it just as well as the Avocado. The bathroom in Cinnamon was perhaps a little in need of updating compared to the newer Avocado, but really everything was lovely. I can't stop talking to people about the wonderfully special Fond Doux. Highly recommended.

Fond Doux Holiday Plantation

Posted May 29, 2014 on Hotels.com
I stayed here for 3 nights with friends. There is no a/c but it was very cool at night with the ceiling fans that I didn't even miss it. The food is pretty good, as are the cocktails. There is a nice tour of the plantation which is a definite must see. The plantation is a short cab ride from all attractions in Soufriere. The staff at Fond Doux is excellent. We would definitely stay here again.

Excellent Staff

Posted May 20, 2014
Pros: I like it's character. You can't find this kind of cottage at a resort.
Cons: The cottage bathroom windows could use a new coat of paint.
Location: It's nestled in a beautiful part of St Lucia. Must dos/see: Sugar Beach, mud bath, swim in the waterfall, Tete Garden, sailing, scuba diving
This is a plantation turned hotel so you will not get your modern, up-to-date rooms but this place is very charming! The cottages are secluded and very spacious. We got the "jungle view" since our cottage was lower on the hillside instead if the island/mountain view but it was still beautiful. The staff are excellent. We were greeted with a cocktail while our baggage were taken to our cottage. In casual conversation we asked the chief if she makes fried plantains. The following morning at breakfast she brought us friend plantains (off the menu) herself! All of the staff really pay attention to details. Highly recommended!

Remote and relaxing

Posted May 15, 2014 on Hotels.com
This hotel is in the hills about 15 minutes drive from Soufriere. Without a car, there is not a lot to do - a plantation tour and a walk up to the Tet Paul nature reserve were all we managed. The setting is lovely, with well laid out gardens, including an extensive vege garden. The veges are used in the on-site restaurant. The individual cottages are quaint and private. But being in the jungle, there were lots of mosquitoes and I am now covered in bites.it takes almost an hour and a quarter to drive to the resort from the Castries airport, over very windy, narrow roads. Definitely not suitable for those who get car sick! The staff are pleasant. But overall the price is reasonably expensive for the standard of accommodation provided.

Natural and friendly

Posted Apr 22, 2014
Pros: We especially liked the quiet natural location and the extremely helpful friendly staff.
Location: The location was perfect for seeing all St Lucia has to offer. It is close to the Piton's, volcano springs, the rainforest and the beautiful beaches.
This was a fantastic location for a peaceful natural Holiday. From the moment we arrived we knew it was a special environment. The staff where all extremely friendly and accommodating and our cottage situated overlooking the plantation was exquisite. The naturally man made cottage was perfect including a lovely four poster bed, outside shower, a plunge pool, veranda with a view to kill. The area is perfect for experiencing St Lucia at its best from the Piton Mountains, volcanic springs, beautiful beaches, snorkelling and the magic of the rainforest. The favourite tour we experienced was the rainforest walk, our tour guide was Mango who gave a great guided tour of the forest explaining the natural medical remedies and the wildlife including the Amazonian Parrot (we saw three). We also visited a cascading waterfall which was extremely refreshing made even better by a grapefruit from Mango. The tour was made even more magical when Mango took us to his farm where we picked vegetables which was then cooked by the hotel for our evening meal. We then visited his home where we had fish cakes cooked by his Auntie. There are not many hotels if not any that the owners buy drinks, chat and introduce the rest of their family to you but that is what Lyton did during the Easter Sunday party. The whole staff made it special from Catrina the organiser and tour specialist, Kendall at the bar and Philip who gave us a plantation tour. Our whole experience was magical and we will return.

BEAUTIFUL REVIEW - MOST APPRECIATED!!! Dear Ian, Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with us and others. It is always a pleasure to hear that we have succeeded in delivering another memorable vacation as we genuinely strive to deliver a special and natural vacation experience in a truly authentic location. We are delighted to read that you found the team here at Fond Doux to be extremely accommodating and friendly. We try our best to get to know every guest as we enjoy meeting people from all over the globe. The Hilltop Mango is indeed one of the most beautiful cottages on the plantation and we are happy that you found it to be perfect; the views from there are to die for. Fond Doux is the ideal base for visiting Soufriere as it is in proximity to most of the major attractions. We are happy to read that you enjoyed the rainforest hike and that it was indeed one of your favorite tours. Saint Lucians are generally known for their friendliness and warmth and it is heartwarming to read that Mango welcomed you into his home where you experience St. Lucian hospitality first hand. You are indeed quite correct, there are not many hotels where guests get the opportunity to meet face to face with the owners where they can chat, have drinks and to be introduce to our family members. We try our best to ensure that all guests feel special and part of our Fond Doux family. We will be sure to pass on your encouraging feedback to the entire team especially Katrina, Kendal and Philip for creating such a magical and special experience for you. We are happy that Fond Doux Holiday Plantation was able to do its magic once again. Thank you for your commitment to return and for your unwavering support of our plantation paradise. Not your typical hotel on the beach

Posted Feb 11, 2014
Pros: Wonderful and capable staff! Loved getting to know them during our stay. The fresh seafood was excellent!
We chose this hotel because it wasn't your typical hotel on the beach. Be prepared for more limited amenities and for the more "rugged" rainforest experience of being inland on a plantation.

Amazing Staff! Beautiful Grounds! Great Food.

Posted Jan 17, 2014
The Staff was extremely nice! The grounds are a tropical paradise! The food was much better than some of the other resorts we tried. The rooms are clean and very private. I recommend staying in one of the cottages on the hill, you will enjoy waking up to that view.

Wunderschöne Anlage im tropischen Garten

Posted Nov 22, 2013

Rustic perfection!

Posted Nov 19, 2013 on Hotels.com
We really enjoyed Fond Doux. It has a family atmosphere with staff who obviously enjoy working there and owners who make a point of introducing themselves to all the guests. Each cottage is nestled in isolation in the midst of the forest, some with incredible views of the surrounding mountains. It is very quiet and absolutely peaceful. If you enjoy nature and don't mind a short walk to your hotel room (through the forest!) then this is the place for you. The cottages are very tastefully and comfortably decorated, which means that this hotel is very rustic but also very comfortable. The meals including breakfast were good. The location is somewhat isolated from surrounding towns (Soufreis being the nearest, about 10 minutes drive away). If you are confident driving on the narrow mountainous roads, a rental car is recommended but if not, then the hotel will call taxis for you to take you around the place.

Pros and cons - great cottages, pool and staff

Posted Nov 18, 2013
Just finished a 4 night stay at Fond Doux. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The cottages were awesome. We were in hilltop papaya with a plunge pool and the outdoor shower. Very romantic and quaint. The hotel pool was also very nice. However the communication at the hotel was a bit lacking. We were invited to a Caribbean meet and greet followed by a buffet and and dancing. No prices were mentioned in the letter delivered to our door. And upon discussions with other guests we came to the conclusion that it was included. Most guests did all inclusive but we didn't. Even if we had to pay it was fine. But when we checked out we were shocked to see a charge for over 150$ US! For what we were served that was ridiculous. All they had to do was put a note in the letter indicating the price, and we would've eaten somewhere else. Also the excursions were very overpriced and included very little. We had stayed in Rodney bay previous to here and found the prices reasonable but because its more remote at fond Doux they seemed to really go for all you had. Our advice would be to try and get a good driver from the airport and use them while touring around the island. Our driver said he would charge 20$ an hour and even with entrance fees we could've saved quite a bit. Overall the hotel is very nice but watch your wallet!

Hello Kelly, Thank you for providing your feedback following your recent stay at Fond Doux Holiday Plantation. We truly appreciate your comments about our super friendly and helpful staff, awesome cottages- quaint and romantic and the pool area. We would like to apologize for the disappointments that you have highlighted. We are very concerned about your comments regarding the level of communication at the hotel as the team members at Fond Doux are usually highly praised by our guest for the high quality of service that they offer. We wish to clarify that the only thing complimentary was the cocktail hour which included drinks and finger foods. We do understand that there was no pricing for the buffet in the invitation letter however; we find it quite surprising that one would think that dinner along with live entertainment would be included as part of a cocktail hour unless the guest is on an all-inclusive plan. There were guests who joined us for the buffet dinner who were not on the all- inclusive plan, and were aware that the dinner was not part of the complimentary cocktail. It is quite disappointing that you made no mention in your review that upon querying the dinner price, that the buffet dinner amount including your beverages was deducted from your total bill. We have met with our Front Desk team and have addressed your comments with regards to the price inclusion on the invitation letters. In comparison to the other resorts both in Soufriere and St. Lucia in general, our prices are extremely affordable. Transportation in the small Caribbean islands is quite costly due to the implementation of the Value Added Tax (VAT) and the high fuel prices. The distances may appear close in terms of miles however; due to the mountainous terrain it makes it a very long and expensive drive. We trust that apart from the disappointments that you highlighted, you enjoyed the time that you spent with us. Once again, thank you for your comments and we would welcome the opportunity to serve you again and to share firsthand the improvements made in light of your concerns. Best Regards, Eroline and Lyton Lamontagne
