“Veritable garden of delight”
Breathtakingly beautiful and stunningly maintained property. Continues to be a working plantation since 1713 so one is soaked in history. Cottages set amidst the tropical foliage. Private. Lush island decor. Extremely friendly staff and owners, a gem of a find for someone who has stayed in St. Lucia before.
“Great Retreat”
If you love being in the rainforest, you'll love Fond Doux. Fond Doux is the perfect place to stay if you're looking for a place to relax in the middle of the rainforest. Fond Doux is on a cacao plantation where there is an abundance of flora and fauna. The staff encourage you to take walks on the beautiful grounds and you are welcome to pick fresh fruits right outside your cottage. The staff was welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. We had a relaxing stay at Fond Doux!
“paradise”
Fond Doux is on a cocoa plantation in the middle of the rain forest. It is beautiful & the owner told us all the cottages there were former houses that were going to be replaced by something more modern. He buys them, brings them to his property & rebuilds them. He said he was trying to make a museum of old houses. The staff was very friendly & helpful, dinners were amazing. The walking trails there were good & one has an amazing view of the ocean & Petit Piton. The property is quiet & a great place to relax. Aside from one other couple, we had the place to ourselves the whole trip. From our cottage, we could hardly see any of the nearby cottages through all the lush flora. Very private. The plantation is about a 10 minute drive from Jalousie Beach, but they will call their driver to take you & pick you up for free. The only stipulation is you have to go by a certain time in the morning and be picked up by a certain time in the afternoon. It seemed like the times changed daily depending on who we asked, one day it was 9:30, one day 10, then 10:30. Jalousie is beautiful, but bring beach towels if you don't want to pay $20/day per lounge chair. We went to Anse Chastanet also because we heard snorkeling was better there, although I thought both places offered great snorkeling. I recommend taking a water taxi at some point, because the view of the island from the water is amazing.
“Customer Service is Not their Strong Suit”
My boyfriend and I were looking forward to a long anticipated vacation on St. Luica. We selected this hotel based on reviews we read, but were not warned about their layed back and apathetic response to problems we had during our visit. While we had issues and cancellations with a couple of tours we booked that were recommended by the hotel, they did not step in to assist. We felt like we were on our own. Also, much had been made of their restaurant cuisine which my boyfriend and I found average and over priced. The cottages and surrounding grounds were charming and novel, but I would warn anyone from going during the summer, as there is no air conditioning and it was hot and humid in July. It made it hard to relax. If we were to do it again, we would A) cruise through the island or B) save our money and stay at a first class hotel - more to our travel style then the rural setting at the Fond Doux
“Naturelovers paradise. Very romantic. Not close to airport, but many activities close to it.”
Perfect for nature lovers/birders. Hummingbirds are as common as sparrows here. Stay in one of the hillside cottages if you don't mind a steep walk. Four days here would be perfect because of so many things to do: plantation tour, walking paths, gorgeous tropical foliage, historical buildings, 2 restaurants, spa, pool--and nearby, picturesque harbor town of Soufreire, Diamond Waterfall and gardens, volcano crater, horsebackriding, Paul Tet hiking trail, Ladera's famous restaurant Dasheene, the Pitons, snorkeling at Anse Chastenet. Staff & owners great. Will need car and roads v. narrow, windy, and scary--esp up in mountain rainforest and to Anse Chastenet.
“Beautiful,historic property in St Lucia”
I would go back and stay at Fond Doux. The setting was outstanding, very private. Not located at beach, but guests can take a shuttle to beach only 10 to 15 mins. away. It was very private. Food was good and the service was good. The staff want guests to enjoy themselves. The pool is small with excellent views and guest can have lunch by the pool. I like this area the best, after touring the island. The gentleman the hotel arranged for us picked us up promptly at he airport, which was a plus. Reminds me of the carribean I miss on many islands that have cruise ship invasion.
“I love this place!”
I was immediately overwhelmed by the beauty of this place. It was JUST what I needed. Quiet....quaint....relaxing. After having a stressful and traumatic year, my mother and I needed a place to simply "get away from things" for a while. And Fond Doux fit the bill perfectly. Our cottage was exactly as it looked online, and the staff were impecably helpful. We swayed in our rocking chairs on the front porch and read books and slept and laughed and picked fresh fruit from our yard. We walked through the gardens and saw flowers and trees that made our heart sing. It was amazing. And I can't wait to return. If you want uber luxury and posh accomodations, then this may not be the place for you. But if you want peace and tranquility....warm and friendly service with a smile....good food and welcoming atmosphere... then this IS the place! for you.
